Job Summary
Langan is seeking a Project Environmental Scientist to join its collaborative team in Houston, TX. This individual is responsible for performing and coordinating the natural resource planning, assessment and naturalÂ
resource permitting of land development and infrastructure projects. Coaches, trains, and oversees staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists Sr. Project Personnel with the natural resource planning, design and permitting of land development and infrastructure projects. Leads specific tasks.
- Coordinates and works with staff to prepare environmental assessments, impact statements, planning assessments, zoning analyses and determines the natural resource permitting feasibility of projects.
- Coordinates and works with staff and other disciplines to prepare and modify reports, plans, and design for projects.
- Writes and reviews draft due diligence reports, assessments and permit applications.
- Plans, schedules and develops task and project budgets. Prepares progress reports and draft change orders.
- Performs and manages multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines. Monitors budgets, schedules, and project timelines. Minimizes write-offs by keeping projects on budget.
- Prepares draft invoices, project billings, and assists in payment collections.
- Demonstrates strong writing skills (organization, logic flow, grammar, clarity, appropriateness of work choice); effectively organizes, writes and edits draft proposals and reports and other documents.
- Works with Staff and Senior Staff to improve efficiency and services performed.
- Provides direct oversight and management of staff and senior staff for specific project assignments.
- Supervises, reviews, and approves work performed by Staff and Senior Staff.
- Coordinates with other work groups within the same or different office locations and/or within the same or different disciplines on an as-needed basis.
- Knowledgeable in all Langan services for internal coordination and cross-selling purposes.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of the company’s policies and procedures, as well as the methods and procedures specific to area of expertise.
- Applies standard practices and techniques to unusual situations or devises new approaches to problems. Recognizes inconsistent or inappropriate results; knows when to consult with others regarding problem resolution or taking appropriate action.
- Participates in interviewing and hiring staff.
- Coaches, trains, and motivates staff assigned to natural resource projects.
- Participates in the identification and pursuit of new clients, prepares proposals, learns to develop additional work within an existing project and attends business development meetings with new and existing clients.
- Communicates clearly, effectively, and professionally with clients, contractors, subcontractors, staff, project personnel, supervisors and others. Actively participates in internal and external technical presentations and produces written articles for internal and external publications.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service and responsive to client needs.
- Masters effective public speaking skills. Assists in preparing and conducting client and other professional group presentations, and participates in client meetings.
- Recommends new approaches and ideas that continuously improve efficiency and services performed.
- Stays current on engineering practices, guidelines, regulations, and best management practices and attends internal training to expand knowledge and skills.
- Member of professional organization.
- Actively participates in internal Health and Safety training and has strong commitment to Health and
- Safety in the workplace and field.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years experience in natural resource assessment and permitting
- Extensive experience with local, state, and federal land use permitting
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong customer service skills and responsiveness to client needs
- Ability to multi-task effectively
- Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
- Ability to work well individually and within groups
- Effectively manage multiple clients and projects
- Ability to develop and manage project budgets.
- Ability to coach and assist with the management of staff
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Effective public speaking skills
- Ability to occasionally work hours during evenings and/or weekends
- Occasional travel to project sites and/or client locations, as required
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing
