About the Role:

The HH&H Billing Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely billing processes within the Home Health and Hospice (HH&H) sector of the healthcare industry. This position is responsible for managing patient billing information, verifying insurance coverage, and submitting claims to payers to facilitate prompt reimbursement. The specialist will collaborate closely with clinical and administrative teams to resolve billing discrepancies and optimize revenue cycle management. By maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and payer requirements, the role supports the financial health of the organization while enhancing patient satisfaction through clear and accurate billing communication. Ultimately, the HH&H Billing Specialist contributes to the seamless financial operations that enable the delivery of high-quality home health and hospice care services.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
• Experience working with electronic medical records and billing software required.
• Minimum of two years of medical billing experience preferred. 
• Home Health and/or Hospice billing experience strongly preferred. 
• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing preferred. 

Responsibilities:

• Process and submit Home Health and Hospice insurance claims.
• Manage denial resolution, appeals, and reimbursement follow-up.
• Reconcile patient accounts and investigate payment discrepancies.
• Verify insurance coverage, authorizations, and billing requirements.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and payer regulations.
• Support audits and maintain accurate billing documentation.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to support timely reimbursement.
• Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and pay representatives.

Skills:

The HH&H Billing Specialist utilizes their expertise in medical billing software and electronic health records daily to process claims efficiently and accurately. Their knowledge of insurance policies and healthcare regulations ensures compliance and reduces claim denials, which is critical for maintaining steady revenue flow. They will apply knowledge of ICD-10 diagnosis coding to support submissions and reimbursements.  Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating with clinical teams to verify documentation and for addressing patient billing inquiries with clarity and professionalism. Analytical skills enable the specialist to identify billing trends and discrepancies, facilitating continuous improvement in billing operations. Additionally, attention to detail and organizational abilities are applied consistently to manage complex billing cycles and maintain accurate financial records.
