What you’ll do: You’ll be responsible for clerical tasks, systems and procedures related to the count room in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Essential functions:

  • Assist supervisor with strength logs, count board, and records maintenance as assigned.
  • Input incoming offenders into and remove outgoing offenders from required databases.
  • Track number of hours offenders work in an assigned job.
  • Perform count room duties to assist with obtaining an accurate facility offender count.
  • Operate office equipment such as personal computers, fax and copy machines and scanners.
  • Perform data entry. Process information and paperwork to ensure accurate record keeping.
  • Assist with processing incoming and outgoing inmates. Prepare intake forms. Proofread documents including arrival and release files; copy needed information from one record to another as required. 
  • Assist in maintaining records of housing assignments at the facility level. 
  • Perform duties including typing letters, accountability forms, status reports and other required forms in a timely manner. 
  • Proofread records or forms; copy needed information from one record to another as required. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of all inmate information. 
  • Receive telephone calls tactfully referring to the proper individual.

  • Operate office machines such as photocopiers and scanners, voicemail systems, and personal computers. 
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques. 
  • Maintain accountability of Inmates and property; adhere to safety practices. 

Education and experience requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED. 
  • One (1) year related experience, including word processing or computer data entry experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
