Primary Function:Β
Maintenance 2 Personnel are responsible for general facility maintenance including Preventive Maintenance, Work Orders, Plumbing, Carpentry, Minor Electrical. In addition to tasks required, Maintenance 2 personnel should be proficient in the Maintenance 1 position. Jobs are in various locations across all Mason District Hospital facilities.Β
Responsibilities:
- Preventive Maintenance on most hospital equipment.
- Work Order requests for various jobs submitted by different departments.
- All Maintenance 1 tasks and responsibilities.
- Snow Removal.
- Be familiar with all departmental policies and procedures.
- Weekend and on-call hours are required.
- Foster a professional and confidential relationship with staff and patients, encouraging open communication, trust, and a high standard of professionalism within the department and the hospital.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the organization.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GEDΒ required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience may be considered.
- Read/Write/Speak in English.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Driverβs License and meet all requirements for authorization to operate an MDH- owned, leased, or otherwise authorized vehicle.
- Three years of previous experience with maintenance.
- Ability to read multimeter
- Good telephone and communication skills.
- Medium mechanical skills.
- Must be able to differentiate between colors.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Heavy Lifting & Carrying β Moving tools, equipment, and materials, sometimes weighing 50+ pounds.
- Frequent Bending, Kneeling & Crawling β Performing repairs under sinks, in tight spaces, or at floor level.
- Standing & Walking for Long Periods β Covering large hospital areas on foot throughout the shift.
- Climbing & Working at Heights β Using ladders or lifts to repair lighting, HVAC systems, or ceilings.
- Operating Tools & Machinery β Using drills, saws, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools.
- Repetitive Motions β Performing tasks like painting, hammering, or assembling components.
- Exposure to Extreme Temperatures β Working in boiler rooms, rooftops, or cold storage areas.
- Physical Stamina β Sustaining energy for labor-intensive tasks over extended shifts.
- Indoor & Outdoor Work β Maintaining hospital facilities, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Exposure to Hazards β Risk of electrical shocks, burns, slips, falls, or chemical exposure.
- Noisy & Confined Spaces β Working in mechanical rooms, maintenance tunnels, or near loud equipment.
- Fast-Paced & High-Stress Situations β Responding to urgent repairs, system failures, or safety hazards.
- Interaction with Hospital Staff & Patients β Working in occupied areas while maintaining professionalism and discretion.
- Shift Work & On-Call Duties β Potential night shifts, weekends, and emergency call-ins.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) β Wearing gloves, goggles, masks, or protective clothing when handling chemicals or hazardous materials.
- Varied Tasks & Environments β Handling plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and general repairs daily.
