Job Description:
Position Summary
Penn Color is seeking an experienced Senior Master Production Scheduler / Supply Planner to develop and manage our long-term production schedule and supply plan within a complex, high-mix manufacturing environment.
This role will translate customer demand, forecasts, finished-goods inventory requirements, production capacity, raw-material availability, and operational constraints into a realistic, time-phased master production schedule. The position will serve as a critical link between Demand Planning, near-term Production Scheduling, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Raw Material Planning, Customer Service, Sales, and Information Systems.
The successful candidate will have experience planning in a manufacturing environment characterized by a large number of SKUs, relatively small production batches, frequent changeovers, variable or difficult-to-forecast demand, and competing production priorities. This person must combine strong analytical planning capabilities with the communication and collaboration skills needed to build alignment across departments.
The Senior Master Production Scheduler / Supply Planner will also serve as a key business contributor to Penn Color’s implementation of Oracle Supply Chain Planning, including Demand Planning, Inventory Optimization, Supply Planning, S&OP, and Available-to-Promise.
Key Responsibilities
Master Production Scheduling
- Develop and maintain a time-phased master production schedule that balances demand, finished-goods inventory requirements, production capacity, material availability, and operational constraints.
- Translate the approved demand plan into production requirements by item, manufacturing location, production resource, and planning period.
- Establish production timing and quantities for key make-to-hold, make-to-stock, and make-to-order finished goods.
- Develop practical production campaigns that balance inventory requirements with batch-size, changeover, sequencing, and manufacturing-efficiency considerations.
- Determine what should be produced, in what quantity, at which location, and during what planning period.
- Maintain the appropriate balance between schedule responsiveness and schedule stability.
- Review actual production performance, inventory consumption, demand changes, and schedule attainment, adjusting the master schedule when appropriate.
- Provide near-term Production Scheduling with clear priorities and an achievable master production plan for detailed sequencing and execution.
Supply Planning and Scenario Modeling
- Model supply-and-demand scenarios involving forecast changes, customer priorities, capacity limitations, raw-material constraints, inventory targets, and manufacturing disruptions.
- Identify future inventory shortages, excess inventory, production overloads, material constraints, and customer-service risks.
- Perform rough-cut capacity planning across critical equipment, work centers, manufacturing locations, and production resources.
- Evaluate alternative planning scenarios and quantify their impact on inventory, customer service, capacity utilization, manufacturing efficiency, and cost.
- Recommend solutions such as revised production timing, adjusted campaign quantities, alternate production resources, overtime, inventory deployment, or revised customer commitments.
- Clearly communicate supply constraints, tradeoffs, assumptions, and recommended actions to business stakeholders and leadership.
Planning Process and Oracle SCM Implementation
- Serve as a business subject-matter expert for the implementation of Oracle Supply Planning at Penn Color.
- Support the broader integration of Oracle Demand Planning, Inventory Optimization, Supply Planning, S&OP, and Available-to-Promise.
- Bring established master scheduling and supply-planning best practices to Penn Color’s future-state process design.
- Help define planning horizons, time fences, planning calendars, decision rights, responsibilities, meeting structures, and cross-functional handoffs.
- Partner with Information Systems, consultants, and business stakeholders to document business requirements and evaluate system designs.
- Assist with the validation of planning master data, including lead times, batch sizes, order modifiers, yields, routings, work centers, resource capacities, manufacturing calendars, sourcing rules, safety stocks, and inventory targets.
- Participate in system configuration reviews, scenario testing, user-acceptance testing, training, cutover, and post-implementation stabilization.
- Identify process and data gaps that could prevent the planning system from generating reliable or executable recommendations.
- Help develop standard work, planning policies, exception-management processes, reports, and performance measures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
- Seven or more years of experience in master production scheduling, supply planning, production planning, or manufacturing planning.
- Experience in a high-mix manufacturing environment with numerous SKUs, relatively small production batches, frequent changeovers, and variable demand.
- Demonstrated experience with supply-and-demand scenario modeling and rough-cut capacity planning.
- Experience planning across multiple plants, production lines, or shared manufacturing resources.
- Working knowledge of bills of material or formulas, routings, work centers, run rates, yields, manufacturing calendars, campaign production, and sequence-dependent changeovers.
- Strong analytical skills, including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and planning data.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build alignment, resolve competing priorities, and collaborate across departments.
- Ability to communicate complex planning information clearly to both operational and senior-level audiences.
