Inspect and repair roads by properly maintaining associated tunnels and movable bridges in a professional, safe and cost-effective manner that meets VDOT's strategic plan goals.

How you will contribute:
  • Diagnose Repairs: Proficiently use electrical test equipment, prints, and diagnostic equipment to accurately analyze mechanical equipment. Isolate malfunction, perform repairs, fabricate and make modifications timely.
  • Job Safety: Determine and demonstrate proper work site protection techniques. Ensure workplace safety by identifying workplace hazards and making suggestions for improvement. Wear proper personal protection equipment.
  • Time Management: Maximize performance and cause no disruption to shift or activities by effectively using time management. Gain and maintain a thorough knowledge of standard operating procedures and other applicable regulations.


  • What will make you successful:
  • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge and ability to use, read and interpret complex electrical and mechanical reports.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical circuits, low and high voltage electrical circuits, electrical switchgear and heavy duty electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of control circuits, controls for pumps, motors and various electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting electrical and mechanical malfunctions.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
  • Experience using, reading and interpreting complex electrical and mechanical reports.
  • Experience working with AC and DC electrical circuits, low and high voltage electrical circuits, electrical switchgear and heavy duty electrical equipment.
  • Experience working with control circuits, controls for pumps, motors and various electrical systems.
  • Skill in basic computer operations.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Additional Considerations:
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Electronics, or related field desired.
  • Experience in electrical repairs and control circuits.
  • Experience in electronic maintenance related to transportation or facility infrastructure.
