This role owns escalated Business Central break/fix resolution for Accounting, Credit, Order Entry & Billing, and Accounts Payable users, drives Excel automation and AI-enabled process improvement, and serves as a lead/co-lead contributor to the company's planned reimplementation of Business Central to a more streamlined, base configuration. Working alongside and providing guidance to a peer Business Analyst, and reporting to the Controller, this role brings deep working knowledge of the company's contracts and operational nuances to deliver business-aware system solutions and set standards for how the team supports the business.
Duties and Responsibilities
Business Central Support & Break/Fix Leadership
- Own escalated and complex Business Central issues for Accounting, Credit, Order Entry/Billing, and Accounts Payable users, determining root cause and the appropriate fix, workaround, or configuration change.
- Set the standard for triage and resolution across the break/fix log, distinguishing training gaps, process gaps, and true system defects, and directing the other Business Analyst on prioritization.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation to IT or the Business Central partner for issues requiring vendor involvement.
- Remain available for urgent issues during month-end close and other critical business cycles, and ensure adequate coverage across both Business Analysts during those periods.
Business Central Reimplementation Leadership
- Lead/assist key workstreams in the reimplementation of Business Central to a more standardized, base configuration, including current-state process documentation, gap analysis, and data cleanup.
- Identify and make recommendations on customizations, workarounds, and legacy configurations to retire, simplify, or rebuild in the reimplemented environment.
- Own translation of business requirements from Accounting, Credit, Order Entry/Billing, and Accounts Payable into functional specifications, working directly with the implementation partner or internal IT.
- Lead/assist user acceptance testing (UAT) planning, test script development, and training material creation for the reimplemented system, coordinating input from the other Business Analyst.
Process Improvement & AI Strategy
- Identify manual, repetitive, or error-prone processes across Accounting and Operations and lead the design of automated or AI-assisted solutions.
- Build and maintain advanced Excel solutions (macros/VBA, Power Query, dynamic templates) to streamline reconciliations, reporting, and data transformation, and set standards for how these tools are built and maintained.
- Evaluate, select, and help govern AI tools and agents (e.g., document extraction, contract review support, workflow assistance, reconciliation checks), establishing guardrails, testing standards, and documentation practices in coordination with the Controller and accounting leadership.
- Coordinate with the other Business Analyst in building and maintaining AI-assisted and automated workflows.
Contracts and Business Knowledge
- Develop and maintain deep working knowledge of the company's commercial contracts, including order/ship transactions and percentage-of-completion project work, to support billing, revenue, and margin-related system decisions.
- Partner with the Controller and accounting team to understand branch/commission structures and acquisition integrations, and how these are reflected in Business Central.
- Serve as a resource to the other Business Analyst and other departments on the company's operational nuances across a multi-branch, multi-entity, acquisitive environment.
General Business Analyst Leadership
- Lead requirements-gathering sessions with business stakeholders and translate them into clear documentation (process maps, SOPs, functional specs).
- Own more complex ad hoc reporting, dashboard development, and data analysis requests across accounting and operational departments.
- Coordinate workload, coverage, and project assignments with the other Business Analyst, providing guidance and informal mentorship on systems knowledge and best practices.
- Establish and maintain documentation standards for processes, system configurations, and known issues to support internal controls and audit readiness.
- Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned by the Controller.
