Job Details

General Summary:

This position will serve as a payroll processing strategist and collaborator and will share responsibilities with the Senior Manager Payroll and with other cross-functional Payroll Managers (Tax and Garnishment). The position will share responsibility for maintaining and supporting processes and procedures for 1) timely and accurate processing of payrolls, 2) managing payroll taxes, and 3) administering garnishments. This position will also be responsible for supporting employee and manager inquiries and administering several other processes (e.g. termination pay, electronic pay, and electronic pay stubs). The Payroll Manager, in close partnership with Director of Payroll, is also responsible for maintaining legal and regulatory compliance, supporting new and existing compensation plans and assisting with the implementation of other strategic initiatives.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of payroll processing to ensure timely payment of all employees. Manages all aspects including reviewing and reconciling payroll activities, monitoring the electronic pay program, managing the termination pay process, and administering electronic pay stubs.
  • Directs the day-to-day operations of payroll support to ensure timely resolution of all employees, manager, or other payroll inquiries. Works closely with HR teams to resolve escalated inquiries in a timely manner. Manages all aspects including evaluating telephone and email statistics, managing resource requirements, and ensuring appropriate customer service.
  • Support the Director of Payroll with the setup, configurations, and maintenance of the Oracle HCM platform. Assists with the testing and completion of required payroll system release and/or updates to ensure desired results while keeping management team informed of new set up or changes.
  • Mentor direct reports. Performs other relevant duties as required to ensure successful continued operations of Payroll.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Technical payroll skills. Comprehensive understanding of payroll concepts and applicable rules and regulations and an ability to use to support the growth of the Company.
  • Technical payroll tax, and garnishment processing skills. Comprehensive understanding of payroll tax and garnishment concepts, applicable rules and regulations, and an ability to use this knowledge to support the growth of the Company.
  • Recent and strong experience with Oracle HCM (Fusion) processing payrolls.
  • Communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) complex topics in common language to facilitate transfer of knowledge. Need to communicate with all levels in the Company including senior management.
  • Computer knowledge. Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) at an intermediate level or better.
  • Leadership skills, to include mentorship. Ability to provide direction from a financial perspective consistent with the Company’s strategic initiatives. Must have the mentality to step into the details when necessary and assist in resolving any issue facing the Company.
  • Multitasking skills. Ability to manage effectively multiple time-sensitive projects to desired results. Capacity to initiate and manage change in a fast-paced environment.

Work Experience &/or Education:

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in a business discipline.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation and/or possess strong understanding of Oracle HCM (Fusion) Payroll Processes
  • Eight years of payroll experience illustrating progressive maturity and responsibility primarily with more than 75,000 employees.
  • Five years’ experience leading and mentoring large teams.
  • Multi-state (including California and Northeast United States) experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) controls.
