Position Summary

This job description is intended to convey information important to the scope of this position and it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with the position.

Feature Zone Attendants help maintain a safe, organized, and positive environment within terrain feature areas by supporting the daily setup, maintenance, monitoring, and operation of on-snow features and surrounding zones. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down features and signage, maintaining feature conditions throughout the day, assisting with zone layout changes, monitoring guest usage, and helping educate guests on appropriate and intended feature use while providing friendly and respectful customer service.

Successful employees in this role are dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working outdoors in changing mountain and weather conditions. Employees are expected to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining awareness of guest activity, operational conditions, and safety concerns. This position requires strong communication, attention to detail, and a willingness to support evolving operational needs while contributing to a positive, inclusive, and safety-focused workplace culture.


General Responsibilities:

  • Perform work duties in accordance with business policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide feedback regarding customer concerns, comments, and operational ways to enhance efficiencies.
  • Create and participate in a positive and inclusive workplace.
  • Have a working knowledge of Mt. Baker Ski Area Mountain policies and procedures, as well as familiarity of ski area facilities and services available. 
  • Set up and break down the Feature Zone daily, including shoveling snow on and off features.
  • Maintain public facing signage and zone markings for maximum visibility by the public.
  • Testing and assessment of features prior to opening and throughout shift.
  • Help provide education to zone users regarding purpose and intended usage of features
  • Monitor and maintain on-snow features throughout shift
  • Remain aware of injuries and incidents and communicate quickly and effectively with Supervisors.
  • Communicate concerns and customer requests to Supervisors daily.
  • Maintain features on and off snow, independently or in coordination with other departments.
  • Assist Supervisors and Grooming department with layout and construction of zone as well as mid-season changes to zone
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Stay informed of pertinent daily information and relaying relevant information to employees and visitors.
  • Follow safety guidelines as described in the Accident Prevention Plan and as trained.
  • Report safety concerns directly to the department manager, Director of Mountain Operations, and General Manager as trained.
  • Actively participate in fostering a positive safety culture through words and actions.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to learn
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Successful completion of department training by an authorized Mt. Baker Ski Area trainer or ability to complete training prior to first shift.

Wage & Hour Information:

  • Starting rate begins at $17.13/hour with increases for experience, merit, tenure and future WA State minimum wage adjustments possible.
  • This is a seasonal, variable hour position. Hours per week may vary between 5-40+ hours/week. Expected end date for position is April 18, 2027, unless otherwise approved by management.

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability and Willingness to work outside in inclement winter weather
  • Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds (or more depending on task)
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods
  • Shoveling and moving snow
  • Standing and walking on compact snow and ice
  • Perform repetitive tasks as necessary
  • Proficient skiing/riding ability
