Manager, Coding, COE, Quality, Education & Training

The Manager, Coding Center of Excellence (COE) & Quality, Education & Training is responsible for leading the organization's enterprise-wide coding quality assurance, auditing, education, training, and professional development programs across UF Health hospital and professional fee coding operations. This position serves as the enterprise authority for coding quality standards, coding education, regulatory compliance, auditing methodologies, and coding practice consistency. The manager establishes and oversees a centralized Coding Center of Excellence designed to improve coding accuracy, enhance workforce competency, reduce compliance risk, support revenue integrity, and drive operational excellence across all care settings. The role partners closely with Coding, Revenue Integrity, Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), Health Information Management (HIM), Compliance, Finance, Physician Leadership, Patient Financial Services, Managed Care, and Operational Leaders to ensure coding practices align with organizational goals, reimbursement requirements, regulatory guidance, and quality outcomes. The Manager develops enterprise standards, educational curricula, audit programs, coding policies, competency assessments, and best-practice frameworks while fostering a culture of continuous learning and coding excellence.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in health information management, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field.
• Master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• Ten (10) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

Experience

• Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in healthcare coding experience.
• Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or management experience in coding, auditing, quality assurance, education or compliance.
• Experience in an integrated delivery system, academic medical center, or large multi-hospital health system preferred.
• Experience working with stakeholder engagement and coding improvement initiatives.
• Experience utilizing Epic and coding technology platforms required.

License/Certification/Registration

• One of the following required:
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
• Registered Health Information Technician (RIT)
• Coding certification(s) listed below
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred.
• Certified Coding Specialist Professional (CCS-p) preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
• Certified Professional Coder - Hospital (CPC-H).
• Certified Healthcare Compliance (CHC).
• Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) preferred.

Other Qualifications

• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS coding principles.
• Knowledge of MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodologies, along with clinical validation.
• Knowledge of HCC/risk adjustment models.
• Deep knowledge of quality and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership and team development skills.
• Ability to influence best practices through education and collaboration.
• Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into operational processes.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead through organizational change.
