Job Summary

Assists employees with benefits enrollment and questions, may assist with invoice review and processing. Assists in administering employee health and welfare plans and acts as a liaison between employees and insurance vendors. Assist Benefits Specialists in resolving benefit related problems and ensure effective use of plans and positive employee relations 


Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Assists in the administration of employee benefit programs, inclusive of problem resolution.

Maintains employee benefits filing systems and ensures benefit changes are entered appropriately in applicable systems. 

Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions. 

Assists with reviewing and processing of monthly benefits invoices.

Assists in resolving administrative problems with vendor representatives.

Conducts benefits audits in accordance with benefit plans.

May assist the Leave Specialist in tracking STD and LTD and provide reports on same. 

May be responsible for applicable reporting as it relates to benefits enrollments, premiums, and leave management. 

Prepare and set up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs. 

Ensure distribution of required employee notices.

Reviews current and terminated employee payroll records to ensure that proper deductions are taken for benefits; deletes terminated and transferred employees from benefit listing. 

Communicates benefits eligibility to the County Clinic/Pharmacy and retirement vendors on a daily and monthly basis.

Verifies benefits eligibility, both written and verbal, to various parties as needed.

Assists with the processing of child support orders that mandate benefits coverage.

Coordinates annual benefit events and wellness programs.

Coordinates and expedites benefits delivery by establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with all benefits providers.

Assists or prepares correspondence as requested (inclusive of communications materials using software, such as Canva).

Regular and predictable attendance is required.


Performs all other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in employee benefits administration, 


Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of computer operations and software products, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite. 

Knowledge of benefits administration and relevant healthcare laws.

Ability to multi-task.

Ability to collect, compile, and analyze data. 

Ability to generate reports, using available data.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, outside agencies, and the public. 

Knowledge of the programs and benefits offered by employees.

Ability to organize work, with attention to detail.

Ability to effectively work with others.

Physical Ability: Essential functions of this position continuously require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing); operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copier, and printer. Incumbents must continuously be able to think analytically; handle stress and emotion, concentrate on tasks, remember names and other details; examine and observe details; make decisions, and adjust to change. Incumbents must also continuously direct others; meet deadlines; stay organized; use math/calculations and use a keyboard/type.


Essential Functions frequently require the ability to move about inside the office; and move/transport items up to 10lbs.

Essential functions occasionally require the ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, and twisting at the waist, hips or knees; reach overhead; push or pull; and repetitively use hands/arms/legs. Incumbents in this position are occasionally required to be on-call and work irregular hours. 

Sensory Requirements: Essential functions regularly require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use equipment.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions of this position continuously require the ability to either work with others or work alone.
