The Position:
This position is awaiting contract award.
We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Mechanic II to perform organizational-level (O-Level) maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on F/A-18 aircraft assigned to NAS JRB Fort Worth.
Operating as a highly skilled mid-level technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing and correcting mechanical and structural discrepancies. You will work independently on standard maintenance tasks and assist senior Aircraft Mechanics (Level III) on complex system adjustments, ensuring that all work complies with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).
Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft, including engines, powerplants, airframes, flight controls, landing gear, fuel systems, and hydraulic components.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic malfunctions using technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and automated test gear.
- Remove, inspect, repair, and reinstall aircraft components to ensure proper fit, alignment, and functional operation.
Safety & Documentation
- Perform pre-flight, post-flight, and periodic phase inspections to verify the safe operating condition of the aircraft.
- Complete all maintenance documentation precisely in military data tracking systems (NALCOMIS/OOMA) to log actions, parts usage, and inspections.
- Adhere strictly to Tool Control Programs (TCP), Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention protocols, and corporate hazardous material standards.
Flight Line Support
- Assist with flight line operations, including aircraft ground handling, towing, jacking, and launch/recovery operations.
- Support workplace safety protocols by keeping workspaces, hangars, and flight line surfaces orderly and clear of hazards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of military or commercial aviation maintenance experience, with at least two (2) years specializing in F/A-18 (variants) or similar military tactical jet platforms.
- Strong working knowledge of the NAMP (COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series), Navy Technical Publications, and structural repair guidelines.
- Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance or have the eligibility to obtain base installation access immediately.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Military aviation technical school training highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps O-Level fleet experience.
- Progression toward or current qualification as a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI).
- Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely lift and carry parts or toolkits weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Physical capability to bend, kneel, crawl, stand for prolonged periods, and maneuver within the tight cockpits or bays of tactical jets.
- Ability to work comfortably at heights using maintenance platforms, scaffolding, and stands.
- Tolerance to endure outdoor work conditions on the Fort Worth flight line through seasonal variations in temperature, wind, and rain.
