Summary
The Senior Estimator functions as the lead estimator to provide accurate bid proposals and scope analysis for potential projects, including pricing estimates on new projects and estimate prices on change orders on existing contracts. The Senior Estimator reviews analyzes, and interprets contract documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed and comprehensive project cost estimates and exercises sound judgment to arrive at the complete cost estimate with appropriate profit margins to achieve division goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
  • Identifies competitive edge and risks to each project; communicates and evaluates with the Operations team.
  • Provides value engineering and design assist solutions, including cost/schedule impacts.
  • Collaborates with the Operations Team for input on production, schedule, staffing, etc...
  • Reviews contractual requirements, specifications, site logistics, and drawings to develop a plan for the project construction to be utilized as the basis of the cost estimating process.
  • Accurately conducts a thorough and detailed project take-off to quantify all items in the scope.
  • Creates the complete estimate accounting for all aspects of the scope of work, including correct alternates, general conditions, inputting valid vendor and subcontractor pricing, materials and equipment costs, and proper labor production and wage rates aligned with the bid strategy.?
  • Solicits subcontractor and supplier pricing, reviewed prequalification requirements, and determined the best-qualified subcontractors.
  • Identifies project-specific risk issues, the potential impact on Kent Companies, and potential strategies to help mitigate those risks.
  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive proposals, including durations, assumptions, a complete list of exclusions, and all required documentation for submission.
  • Follow up with each customer to gather feedback on pricing and scope (postmortem), promote the Kent differentiators, and request a meeting with each customer to discuss how Kent can provide value to the project.
  • Provide timely follow-up, closure, and tracking of all identified opportunities using Unanet CRM.
  • Participate in post-bid interviews when requested to provide accurate details about the scope, sequence, assumptions, expectations, and exclusions.
  • Maintains a preconstruction schedule, including a bid calendar, to ensure deadlines are managed on time.
  • Assists with the "project hand-off" to the project management and field operations team to ensure a clear understanding of project scope, build assumptions, schedule, and manpower assumptions.
  • Identifies potential improvements that innovate the estimating processes to ensure accurate estimates consistent with divisional costs.
  • Develop preliminary project schedules and pour plans with input from the Operations Team to incorporate into the bid process.

Required experience, qualifications, and education.

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering, 5+ years of concrete estimating experience, and five years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven experience managing concrete preconstruction processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices is required.
  • Experience building relationships and working with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check related to driving (for any driver)
  • Ability to pass a drug screening

Preferred education and experience

  • Practical leadership abilities, like motivation, goal setting, and conflict management
  • Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, prioritization, and multitasking.
  • Creative and results-oriented, with a keen sense of urgency and self-motivation.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s).
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check related to driving (for any driver)
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.
