About the role
We are seeking an experienced Camunda Architect with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, AWS, and a deep understanding of Banking and Financial Services processes. The architect will design and implement scalable, event-driven workflow automation solutions, modernize legacy systems, and lead orchestration initiatives across multiple business domains.
In this role, you will:
Architecture & Solution Design
- Architect and implement workflow automation solutions using Camunda (7/8), including BPMN, DMN, and CMMN models.
- Design cloud-native, microservices-based platforms leveraging Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, REST APIs, and AWS services.
- Define reusable components such as external workers, common workflow patterns, integration connectors, and orchestration frameworks.
- Lead modernization and migration from legacy workflow platforms to scalable Camunda-based solutions.
- Ensure high availability, scalability, observability, and resilience of workflow orchestration systems.
Technical Leadership
- Provide architecture guidance to development teams and enforce best practices for Camunda implementation.
- Review and optimize BPMN models, decision tables, data mappings, and exception-handling strategies.
- Facilitate technical workshops and solutioning discussions with architects, SMEs, and stakeholders.
- Establish architectural governance, coding standards, and workflow modeling guidelines.
Integration & Engineering
- Integrate Camunda workflows with internal and external financial systems using APIs, event streams, and messaging platforms.
- Define API contracts and data exchange standards (JSON/XML) for banking system interoperability.
- Design workflows supporting SLAs, escalations, notifications, and exception triage across BFS processes.
- Architect data flow across upstream/downstream systems ensuring security, compliance, and auditability.
Cloud & DevOps
- Deploy and optimize Camunda platforms on AWS using EKS, EC2, S3, Lambda, SQS/SNS, and cloud-native observability solutions.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines using Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, and IaC tools.
- Ensure distributed logging, metrics, and traceability across microservices and orchestrated processes.
Banking & Financial Domain Alignment
- Collaborate with business units to model workflows in domains such as account opening, payments, lending, risk, fraud, and wealth management.
- Ensure workflows align with regulatory, compliance, audit, and operational controls in BFS environments.
Work model: Hybrid

What you need to have to be considered
- 8–15+ years of enterprise application experience and at least 3 years as a Camunda Architect/Lead.
- Strong hands-on development background with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and API design.
- Practical experience with Camunda 7 and/or Camunda 8, including architecture, scaling, clustering, and performance tuning.
- Expertise in AWS cloud architecture and deployment patterns.
- Experience integrating workflow solutions with BFS systems and processes.

Good to have:
- Exposure to modernization/migration from Documentum or similar workflow platforms to Camunda.
- Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka/MQ), rules engines, or BPM accelerators.
- Understanding of UI frameworks for tasklist/form customization (Angular/React).
- Camunda certification or equivalent credentials.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $129,000 - $152,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
