Main responsibilities:

Position Summary

The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Bakery Department, ensuring exceptional customer service, product quality, food safety compliance, and department profitability. This role assists in managing bakery associates, maintaining production and merchandising standards, driving sales, and creating an engaging shopping experience through fresh, high-quality bakery products.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the Bakery Department.
  • Ensure fresh bakery products are available, properly displayed, and merchandised according to company standards.
  • Support production planning to maintain product quality, freshness, and inventory levels.
  • Monitor product rotation and minimize shrink through effective inventory management.
  • Ensure department cleanliness, organization, and presentation standards are maintained at all times.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Support the Bakery Manager in supervising, training, and developing bakery associates.
  • Assist with scheduling and daily task assignments.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback to team members.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and customer service excellence.
  • Assume department leadership responsibilities in the Bakery Manager's absence.
Customer Service
  • Ensure customers receive prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable service.
  • Assist customers with product selections, special orders, and bakery-related inquiries.
  • Address customer concerns and resolve issues in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a welcoming and customer-focused department environment.
Production & Merchandising
  • Assist with production scheduling to ensure adequate supply of bakery products.
  • Ensure adherence to recipes, product specifications, and quality standards.
  • Support execution of seasonal, promotional, and holiday merchandising programs.
  • Monitor product presentation, signage, and pricing accuracy.
  • Maintain attractive displays that drive sales and enhance the customer experience.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
  • Follow company policies regarding product handling, storage, and preparation.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required food safety documentation.
  • Promote a safe work environment and adherence to workplace safety standards.
Financial Performance
  • Support the achievement of department sales, profit, labor, and shrink goals.
  • Assist with inventory control and ordering processes.
  • Monitor waste and identify opportunities to improve department profitability.
  • Support labor planning and productivity initiatives.
