Diesel Technician 2 Summary

As a Diesel Technician 2 at E.W. Wylie, you will be responsible for the proper, safe, and timely repair of company tractors while supporting fleet reliability and operational readiness. This role focuses on completing preventative maintenance services, diagnosing equipment concerns, and performing more complex maintenance repairs on Class 8 heavy-duty equipment. You will utilize diagnostic software, perform detailed inspections, maintain accurate maintenance documentation, and contribute to a safe, clean, and professional shop environment. The ideal candidate is a skilled technician who enjoys troubleshooting mechanical issues and takes pride in delivering quality workmanship.

Your Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance // Complete scheduled maintenance services including oil changes, lubrication, APU service, heater service, filter services, and other preventative maintenance tasks identified by maintenance leadership
  • Complex Repairs // Diagnose and repair advanced maintenance concerns including CCV valves, clutch replacement, differential leaks, and other non-internal engine repairs
  • Equipment Diagnostics // Utilize diagnostic software and testing tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues on company tractors
  • Safety Inspections // Perform annual DOT inspections and support pre- and post-reseat equipment inspection processes
  • Repair Documentation // Maintain accurate repair orders, time tracking, service records, technician notes, and parts usage within maintenance software
  • Shop Maintenance // Support a safe, organized, and clean work environment through routine bay cleaning and participation in scheduled shop cleaning events
  • Team Support // Perform additional duties as assigned by shop supervisors and maintenance leadership

Your Skillset

  • Technical Expertise // Strong knowledge of Class 8 diesel engines, preventative maintenance practices, and heavy-duty repair procedures
  • Problem Solving // Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic software and technical resources
  • Attention To Detail // Consistent accuracy when performing repairs, inspections, and maintenance documentation
  • Technology Proficiency // Experience utilizing maintenance management systems and electronic diagnostic platforms
  • Time Management // Ability to prioritize work efficiently and complete repairs within established timelines
  • Safety Focus // Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all company and regulatory standards

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent in diesel technology, automotive technology, or a related field, and at least four (4) years of experience in Class 8 heavy-duty diesel maintenance and repair. An equivalent combination may be considered.

  • Driver License // Valid driver's license required
  • Tool Ownership // Possess a complete technician toolset necessary to perform assigned duties
  • Diagnostic Systems // Experience utilizing diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools
  • Maintenance Documentation // Ability to accurately complete repair orders and maintenance records

Preferred Qualifications

A degree, certificate of apprenticeship, or completion of a vocational program in diesel technology, automotive technology, or a related field, and at least five (5) years of experience in Class 8 heavy-duty diesel maintenance and repair. An equivalent combination may be considered.

  • DOT Inspections // Experience performing annual DOT inspections and compliance-related equipment evaluations
  • Advanced Repairs // Experience completing clutch, drivetrain, differential, and other complex mechanical repairs
  • Fleet Maintenance // Experience working within a professional fleet maintenance environment

Salary and Schedule

  • Salary // Pay will be competitive and commensurate with experience
  • Schedule // This position is located in Fargo, ND and is on-site. Standard hours are 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
