Practice Setting: Â Â
- Coverage for Emergency Departments in Bedford and Altoona PA
- PAs are expected to see minor complaint patients and perform minor procedures including lacerations, I&Ds, etc.
- Physicians typically see critically ill patients, evaluate STEMI/Stroke patients, and perform invasive procedures
- Average 1-2 patients per hour
- Physician is on-site 24/7
Schedule:Â
- Part-time coverage
- Average 6-12 shifts per month
- Altoona shifts 7:00a-7:00p, 1:00p-11:00a, and 7:00p-7:00a
- Bedford shifts 10:00a-10:00p
Patient Population:Â 80% adult, 20% pediatrics
EMR:Â EPIC
Credentialing:Â 90 days
Requirements:
- Active Pennsylvania licensure
- Board certification
- AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
- NIHSS certification
- Minimum 2-years Emergency Medicine experience or equivalent
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests
- Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
- Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices.
- Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
- Document patient care accurately and thoroughly

- Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients
- Proficiency in performing physical examinations and procedures relevant to their specialty
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions
- Time management skills to efficiently manage a patient workload
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a healthcare team
Requirements
Education:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics)
- Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
Licenses & Certifications:
- Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Pennsylvania
- National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])
- Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Pennsylvania
- National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Experience:
- While specific requirements may vary, most locum APP positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty
