This is a safety sensitive position. The Psychiatric Clinical Assistant provides support and care management for patients receiving treatment from the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. The Psych Clinical Assistant works as a liaison between the medical, behavioral, and support staff teams. The Psych CA will assist the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a variety of tasks related to ensuring that the patients receive a high level of care. 


III. QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED Required. 
  2. On-the-job training, previous experience preferred.
  3. Personal maturity, cooperation, ability to communicate clearly.


VI. CHARACTERISTIC ACTIVITIES:

  1. Maintains first line contact with all patients who come into clinic and walks the patient through the Psychiatric Intake procedures. 
  2. Performs routine intake procedures such as height, weight, temperature, pulse, blood pressure readings, and brief assessments as needed.
  3. Assists with laboratory procedures as requested by the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. 
  4. Assists with office procedures.
  5. Responsibility for triaging patients who will be seeing the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
  6. Assists the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with care of patients.
  7. Relieves other departments as indicated as time permits.
  8. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.


VII. SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:

  1. Obtains routine temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, and brief assessments.
  2. Responsible for collecting behavioral health data via approved questionnaires. 
  3. Responsible for assisting with maintenance and quality control of medical and laboratory equipment. 
  4. Responsible for routine laboratory procedures including but not limited to:various dipsticks, urinalysis, hemoglobin A1c, glucose screening, gram stains, and procedures as approved by GSPHC policies and CLIA standards. 
  5. Maintains a current CPR license, participates in educational training offered at GSP Health; including web-based training courses.
  6. The Psych CA will be the liaison between the medical, behavioral, and support teams ensuring that integration between disciplines happens in a timely and effective manner. 
  7. The Psych CA may be asked to communicate with patients about medications, appointments, no-shows, and referrals.
  8. The Psych CA will be asked to assist in monitoring treatment progress and medication compliance. 
  9. The Psych CA will participate in the continued education deemed necessary for the best patient care within the role of the Psych CA.
  10. The Psych CA will perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein, or as assigned by the Behavioral Health Lead.
