JOB SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE:


The Millwright is responsible for the mechanical installation, precision alignment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy industrial machinery, conveyor systems, and mechanical components. Additionally, the role encompasses belt splicing, rubber lining, and coating applications on pulleys, tanks, and structural surfaces across mine and job sites. THIS IS A SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION.


POSITION TYPE / HOURS OF WORK:


Full-Time Non-Exempt

40 hours per week / Monday – Friday (Hours vary depending upon job). Overtime is frequently available and required. This position is often required to work a variety of schedules; day and evenings, weekends and holidays.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Install, assemble, dismantle, move, and align heavy industrial machinery, drive assemblies, power transmission systems, and conveyor components.

· Perform precision mechanical alignments (shafts, gears, pulleys, couplings, and bearings) using precision measuring tools, dial indicators, and optical or laser alignment equipment.

· Troubleshoot mechanical failures, diagnose root causes, and repair or replace defective motors, gearboxes, pumps, rollers, and mechanical drive systems.

· Rig, lift, and hoist heavy machinery and structural components using cranes, chain falls, hoists, and specialized rigging equipment.

· Conduct structural metal fabrication, layout, cutting, grinding, and basic welding to fit, modify, or anchor machinery frames and supports.

· Promote safety by working adhering to company safety guidelines; which includes but is not limited to the proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials and use of personal protective gear.

· Know, understand and capable of utilizing emergency response protocol during an accident.

· Regular attendance according to schedule.

· Follow all Company policy and procedures.

· Other duties as assigned.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Environmental Factors:

o Mines, quarries, factories, plants, shipping ports, construction sites.

o Can be outdoors or underground.

o Frequently hot, dusty, wet, noisy, and/or hazardous due to chemical exposure and proximity to heavy machinery.

o Sometimes extreme temperatures: hot sun, cold tunnels, or humid settings.

· Physical Demands:

o Heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs or more) of materials, rubber, belts, tools, and equipment.

o A lot of bending, crouching, kneeling, and working in awkward positions.

o Requires standing for long periods and manual handling of bulky belts.

o Walking on concrete floors, gravel or crushed rock surfaces, uneven dirt or soil surfaces, rubber-lined surfaces, steel surfaces, wet, slippery, or oily floors, inclined surfaces or ramps.

o Regular use of hands for cutting, fitting, and applying rubber materials.

o Use of hand tools and power tools (grinders, vulcanizing presses, cutting tools).

o Repetitive movements may be involved when splicing, applying rubber linings or conducting repairs.

· Safety Considerations:

o High use of PPE: gloves, safety glasses, helmets, steel-toe boots, respiratory protection.

o Strict safety protocols: lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fire safety.

o Risk of burns, cuts, strains, or being near moving equipment.

o Inhalation risks from chemicals or dust.

· Skills/Tools Used:

o Vulcanizing or mechanical splicing.

o Belt tracking and installation skills.

o Work involves handling and operating specialized tools (e.g., grinders, cutters, welding equipment, and vulcanization presses).

o Reading technical manuals and interpreting belt specs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


TRAVEL:

Domestic, overnight travel is often required of this position. Emergency call outs may provide little or no notice of travel. Travel location may be remote. Duration of travel could last for weeks at a time.


QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Preferred:

· High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

· Valid driver’s license, required

· 1 year of experience in industrial maintenance or mechanical work.

· Basic Conveyor Belt Splicing Certification, preferred.

· Basic site safety training (OSHA 10 or equivalent), preferred
