Product Manager
Role Overview
PrimeSource Building Products is seeking a strategic and customer-focused Product Manager to help shape the direction, positioning, and commercial success of our product portfolio.
This role is responsible for translating customer needs, market trends, competitive intelligence, and business priorities into clear product strategies and go-to-market plans. The Product Manager will work closely with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Executive Leadership to strengthen product-market fit, differentiate our offerings, and drive profitable growth.
The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution. They are naturally curious about customers, confident working with data, and skilled at bringing cross-functional teams together around a shared vision.
What You’ll Do
Product Strategy and Market Leadership
- Collaborate in the development and evolution of product roadmaps in partnership with key stakeholders, ensuring decisions are grounded in customer needs, market dynamics, and business strategy.
- Translate market trends, customer insights, and competitive intelligence into actionable portfolio recommendations.
- Collaboratively define and maintain compelling product positioning, messaging, and unique selling propositions across customer segments.
- Conduct market sizing, segmentation, and market-share analysis to identify growth opportunities and emerging risks. Build business cases and recommendations for new products, product enhancements, and portfolio investments.
- Drive reporting mechanisms and analysis to monitor product performance and recommend changes based on customer demand, profitability, and strategic priorities.
Customer and User Insights
- Develop and support customer research programs, including field observations, customer interviews, surveys, and voice-of-customer feedback.
- Champion a customer-first mindset and ensure insights directly influence product strategy, value propositions, and go-to-market plans.
- Partner with Sales and customer-facing teams to understand evolving customer needs, pain points, and purchasing behaviors.
- Research, develop, and maintain complex research and data to drive clear recommendations that guide business decisions.
Competitive Intelligence
- Monitor competitors, market threats, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
- Develop and maintain competitive analyses, battlecards, and other tools that help Sales and leadership make informed decisions.
- Understand and track regional trends to drive sales positioning and stocking recommendations.
- Provide actionable insights regarding competitor positioning, pricing, product launches, and market activity.
- Use competitive intelligence to inform both long-term portfolio strategy and near-term commercial opportunities.
- Understand competitive positioning in multiple sales channels, analyzing and supporting strategic decisions on product placement and expansion.
Go-to-Market Leadership
- Develop and lead go-to-market plans for new products, enhancements, and major product initiatives.
- Coordinate launch activities across Product, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and other business partners.
- Recommend pricing and packaging strategies based on customer value, competitive benchmarks, costs, and profitability targets.
- Create clear, customer-centered product messaging, launch content, and sales-enablement materials.
- Establish launch objectives, timelines, KPIs, and post-launch performance reviews.
Sales Training and Enablement
- Develop sales playbooks, value propositions, and tools that improve sales effectiveness.
- Partner with Sales Leadership to ensure teams can confidently position products, address customer objections, and differentiate PrimeSource from competitors.
- Provide ongoing product and market updates to customer-facing teams.
- Gather feedback from Sales and customers to continuously improve product strategy and supporting materials.
Catalog and Portfolio Management
- Support product catalog governance, including lifecycle management, naming conventions, SKU creation, SKU optimization, and portfolio organization.
- Support product data integrity and continuity between multiple systems, ensuring a seamless experience for internal and external customers.
- Evaluate underperforming or duplicative products and recommend opportunities to simplify and strengthen the portfolio.
- Ensure product information, specifications, pricing, and documentation are accurate and consistent across channels.
- Coordinate product introductions, transitions, and discontinuations with internal stakeholders.
Cross-Functional and Operational Alignment
- Serve as a key connection point among Product, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Engineering, and Finance.
- Connect product strategy to revenue goals, inventory planning, marketing programs, operational capabilities, and sales priorities.
- Promote alignment around product KPIs, measurement plans, forecasts, and performance expectations.
- Communicate product priorities, risks, dependencies, and results clearly to stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Balance long-term strategic initiatives with the day-to-day execution needed to move the business forward.
- Provide ongoing project management oversight, coordinating with cross-functional teams and driving strategic goals.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, engineering, supply chain, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
- 7–10+ years of experience in product management, product marketing, product strategy, or a related function.
- Experience working in a complex, multi-product B2B environment; industrial, distribution, manufacturing, or building-products experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success developing product strategies and executing cross-functional go-to-market initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of customer research, segmentation, market sizing, pricing, positioning, and competitive analysis.
- Ability to convert customer and market insights into practical business recommendations.
- Excellent analytical, strategic-thinking, storytelling, and executive-communication skills.
- Ability to facilitate customer visits, trade shows, and industry events.
- Strong project-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience building trusted partnerships across Sales, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and technical teams.
- Ability to operate effectively at both the strategic and hands-on execution levels.
