GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Small Business Center is seeking a highly motivated Business Services Senior Library Assistant (SLA) to develop, coordinate, and implement programming for all ages, spanning economic and workforce development, including entrepreneurship and small business support. The SLA will also conduct trainings for patrons and community organizations on navigating library resources that enable them to conduct market research, develop business and marketing plans, and gain job readiness techniques.

Work is performed with independence under the supervision of the Business Services Manager.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including one evening shift per week (Monday), every third Saturday, and every twelfth Sunday on a rotating basis.


Typical Schedule
:

Monday:          11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Tuesday:          9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Wednesday:    9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Thursday:        9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
*Friday:           9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. (off when working on Saturday)
*Saturday:       9:15 a.m. – 6 p.m. (every 3rd week with 1 hour and 10 minute lunch break)
*Sunday:          12:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. (every 12th week with 10 minute break)

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate a wide range of engaging activities, workshops, and library programs with emphasis on entrepreneurship, small business support, and job readiness
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate adaptable themed-learning experiences for outside organizations, with emphasis on entrepreneurship, small business support, and job readiness for underserved populations
  • Provide excellent customer service within the Library’s Small Business Center and other spaces including library programming, one-on-one assistance, and outreach
  • Cross-training at all service points will be required for this role to support overall library operations
  • Assist with monitoring and answering LibAnswers/LibChat
  • Provide excellent internal customer service in a team-based environment
  • Perform related tasks as required or requested

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of library resources, procedures, and systems
  • Analytical skills and knowledge of tools for evaluating the community and its needs
  • Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for a wide variety of customers
  • Commitment to excellence in providing customer service to people of all ages
  • Thorough knowledge of small business support and building community partnerships
  • Ability to plan innovative programs in multiple locations
  • Ability to adapt programming to meet the needs and skill levels of patrons
  • Ability to analyze problems, recommend solutions, and make decisions
  • Ability to use good judgement in daily services
  • Ability to relate library services to the needs of the community
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with study in library science or related specialty area and two years experience in general library services.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Public Library experience
  • Considerable experience working with entrepreneurs and small businesses
  • Considerable experience working with underserved populations
  • Ability to speak Spanish
