Fitness Instructor

The Fitness Team within the Duke Recreation and Physical Education department is looking for knowledgeable, energetic, and certified Fitness Instructors. All instructors are required to hold a current Certification from a respected and validated certifying organization. Current CPR and First Aid Certifications are Also Required. Minimum Requirements:

路 Bachelor鈥檚 degree

路 Certification from a respected and validated certifying organization.

路 Current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification (or ability to obtain within first 30-days).

路 Ability to lift 50lbs.

路 Valid driver鈥檚 license.

路 Ability to work evening and weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

路 Two or more years of experience working in group fitness settings teaching classes.

路 Experience working with a variety of ages, wellness goals and physical conditions in a group fitness setting.

Other Requirements:

路 Valid driver鈥檚 license.

路 Current Fitness Instructor Certification.

This position is onsite. The work is performed on-site on Duke University鈥檚 East Campus in the Brodie Recreation Center or Duke University鈥檚 West Campus in the Wilson Recreation Center.

路 Plan, prepare and instruct safe and effective group fitness classes

路 Maintain knowledge of general fitness, wellness, anatomy, kinesiology, and physiology as it relates to human movement and muscular conditioning.

路 Provide fun and motivational instruction and education on the benefits of healthy living through exercise.

路 Assist with maintaining the health and quality of all fitness equipment.

路 Achieve proficiency in the use of any required Software programs as deemed necessary by the Fitness Department.

路 Understand and enforce University Recreation and Area Specific policies and guidelines.

路 Attend required trainings.

路 Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $23.26 to USD $36.73. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
