Provides administrative support for the management of sendout testing and acts as a liaison with reference laboratories. Provides technical and procedural supervision in coordination with department leadership. Oversees training and development for phlebotomy staff. Actively involved with pre-analytical process improvement and quality monitoring. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS): Provides daily operational oversight and technical and/or procedural support to phlebotomy staff. Managing day-to-day workflow in Phlebotomy and AOS, troubleshooting order and specimen issues, and other pertinent administrative tasks. Coordinates management of referred and send out testing, including billing, reporting of interfaced and non-interfaced test results, specimens, and test requirements. Participate in the interview process; Train, develop, and coach new hires . Oversees orientation and training for phlebotomy staff. Maintains pertinent policies and procedures that are reviewed by the Medical Director initially and annually. Works with Team Leader, Phlebotomy to ensure efficient communication with outpatient and outreach clients and promote quality and test stewardship in the pre-analytical phase of laboratory testing. Serves as a resource and communication liaison. Interacts with physicians, nurses, clients, reference laboratories, and clinics, addressing inquiries related to test results, specimen quality, and other issues related to test orders, specimen collection, and/or testing. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies for use in daily operations. Regularly and appropriately communicates information to Laboratory Supervisor(s) or Director. Participates in teams and special projects when needed. Practice infection control standards at all times. Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures to protect all patients and team members. When handling blood and/or body fluids, standard precautions will be followed to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Attends training to stay updated with laboratory methodology, instrumentation, procedures, and policies. Participates on teams and special projects when needed. Must adhere to, and promote, safety protocols at all times. Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts. Participates in the schedule rotation, filling shifts as needed. Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements (ex. weekends, holidays, on call.) Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served. Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings. Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory. Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations. This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals. Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values. Performs other related duties as assigned. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Proficient medical lab scientist or medical laboratory technician requiring a broad knowledge of laboratory procedures, including laboratory equipment and use of a laboratory information system. At least one year of previous phlebotomy and specimen processing experience. Ability to effectively mentor and train others. Attention to detail, precision, and accuracy. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to present information and ideas clearly. Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Position requires communication, requiring the ability to comprehend needs and respond clearly and appropriately. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position. Must be flexible for possible work during weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts. Ability to organize and prioritize workload. Strong attention to detail, precision, and commitment to accuracy. Skill in handling multiple priorities in a high-volume setting. Communication skills, including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills, including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools. Education and/or Experience:  Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) requires a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited program. Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) requires an associate degree from an accredited program. Moderate knowledge of medical terminology required. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:  Current medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician certification (ASCP or equivalent). For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Safety-Sensitive Position - This is a “Safety-Sensitive” Position as defined by Oklahoma law.  As such, please be advised that applicants for this position cannot test positive in pre-employment drug tests (or any drug tests administered after employment begins) for the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychoactive component of cannabis.  This is true even if the applicant is in possession of a valid medical marijuana card that otherwise allows the license-holder to legally use and consume medical marijuana.
