We're seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Technician to join a growing Building Automation team serving commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, and municipal facilities throughout the Gulf Coast region. In this field-based position, you'll install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain HVAC control systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS), ensuring optimal system performance and exceptional customer satisfaction.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technician with experience in DDC controls, low-voltage systems, and commercial HVAC equipment who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and working directly with customers. You'll collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, Programmers, and fellow field technicians while supporting projects from startup through long-term service.
Key Responsibilities- Install, configure, commission, and service HVAC controls and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Perform controller startup, point-to-point checkout, wiring verification, functional testing, and system commissioning.
- Troubleshoot DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, VFDs, communication networks, and other control devices.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, sequences of operation, and project specifications.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, communication, controls, and system performance issues.
- Support startup, commissioning, optimization, and performance verification for new and existing BAS installations.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, Programmers, subcontractors, and customers throughout project execution.
- Train customers on system operation, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting during project turnover.
- Complete service reports, commissioning documentation, startup records, and project documentation accurately and on schedule.
- Follow all company safety policies and jobsite requirements while delivering high-quality workmanship.
- 2+ years of experience installing, commissioning, or servicing HVAC controls, Building Automation Systems (BAS), DDC controls, or related low-voltage systems.
- Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment, control sequences, and system operation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and sequences of operation.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical, controls, communication, and BAS-related issues.
- Familiarity with BAS controllers, sensors, actuators, relays, valves, dampers, VFDs, and other field devices.
- Experience with one or more BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Distech, Alerton, Carrier, or similar systems.
- Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other building automation communication protocols.
- Experience commissioning commercial HVAC control systems is preferred.
- EPA Certification, electrical license, or other technical certifications are a plus.
- Strong communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally to customer and project sites throughout the Gulf Coast region.
