We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Technician to join a growing building automation team supporting commercial, industrial, and municipal facilities throughout the Gulf Coast region. This field-based role is responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and servicing HVAC control systems and building automation systems (BAS) while ensuring reliable system performance and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with DDC controls, low-voltage control systems, and commercial HVAC equipment, along with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating with project managers, engineers, programmers, and customers.
Responsibilities- Install, configure, commission, and service HVAC controls and building automation systems (BAS).
- Perform controller startup, point-to-point verification, wiring inspections, functional testing, and system commissioning.
- Troubleshoot DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, communication networks, and related control devices.
- Read and interpret control drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and project specifications.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, communication, and system performance issues.
- Support startup, commissioning, system optimization, and performance verification for new and existing installations.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, programmers, subcontractors, and customers throughout project execution.
- Provide customer training on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting during project turnover.
- Complete service reports, startup documentation, commissioning records, and project documentation accurately and on time.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company safety standards and jobsite requirements.
- 2+ years of experience installing or servicing HVAC controls, building automation systems (BAS), DDC controls, or related low-voltage control systems.
- Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment, control strategies, and system operation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical, communication, programming, and controls-related issues.
- Familiarity with BAS controllers, sensors, actuators, relays, VFDs, valves, dampers, and other field devices.
- Experience with one or more BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Distech, Alerton, Carrier, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other building automation communication protocols.
- Experience commissioning commercial HVAC control systems is preferred.
- EPA Certification, electrical license, or related technical certifications are a plus.
- Strong communication, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel locally to project sites throughout the Gulf Coast region.
