Harrison County Hospital is seeking a PRN (per diem) Compliance Auditor.

The Compliance Auditor verifies medical record documentation; supports billing charge and coding.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • CCS, CCS-P and/or CPC-H preferred.
  • Coding experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-9, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to abstract medical chart contents
  • Computer literacy for P.C. and hospital information system

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of current medical terminology and procedures.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to establish smooth working relationship with physicians, their office staff, and ancillary hospital staff.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Performs audits on all Observation accounts to ensure correct charges.                    
  • Applies observation hours/procedure charges to account in hospital information system, Meditech.                   
  • Maintains accurate and complete Observation Log for Finance.                               
  • Performs chart audits on all outpatient surgery charts to ensure correct charges.       
  • Performs inpatient chart charge audits to ensure correct charges.                              
  • Performs random chart audits on all outpatient patients to assure correct billing.        
  • Performs chart audits on all emergency department charts to ensure correct charges. 
  • Applies emergency department charges for infusion/injections to account.                 
  • Educates staff regarding correct billing/documentation process.                                    
  • Responsible for follow-up with physicians on incomplete orders from coders. 
  • Establishes dialog with hospital staff to obtain and relay necessary information concerning patient's billing and insurance requirements.                             
  • Conducts audits of patient records, as requested. 
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of hospital reimbursement by third party payors including Medicare and
  • Medicaid by utilizing reference material and attending education sessions.                                                   
  • Codes outpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles with accuracy according to the documentation in the patient's medical record.            
  • Assists internal and external customers with requests for information.                         
  • Works closely with the RAC team to audit records. 
  • Performs other duties as requested by manager.
