Job Summary
The CAD/GIS Technician supports SecureVision’s construction and engineering operations by performing basic CAD and GIS-related work and assisting with the management and maintenance of the Company’s 3GIS system and 811 database.
This is an entry-level to junior-level technical position intended for an individual with a basic understanding of CAD, GIS, or related technical work. The position reports to the Director of Construction Services and is designed for someone who can develop their skills while supporting the Company’s ongoing CAD, GIS, and 811 needs.
Prior experience within telecommunications or a related technical environment is preferred but not required. Direct experience with 3GIS is preferred; however, experience with other GIS platforms or systems may be considered in lieu of direct 3GIS experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform basic CAD-related work as directed by the Director of Construction Services.
- Perform basic GIS-related work as directed by the Director of Construction Services.
- Assist with the management and maintenance of the Company’s 3GIS system.
- Manage and maintain information within the Company’s 811 database.
- Maintain accurate and organized CAD, GIS, and 811-related information and records.
- Work under the direction of the Director of Construction Services to support the Company’s CAD, GIS, and 811 needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of or familiarity with CAD and/or GIS systems.
- Familiarity with 3GIS preferred; experience with other GIS platforms or systems may be considered in lieu of direct 3GIS experience.
- Ability to learn and work within the Company’s 3GIS and 811 systems and processes.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software and technology.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain organized records and information.
- Ability to follow instructions and established processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical school education, coursework, certification, or training related to CAD, GIS, drafting, or a similar technical field preferred.
- Previous experience with CAD, GIS, telecommunications, utilities, or a related technical environment is preferred but not required.
- Direct 3GIS experience is preferred but not required. Relevant experience with other GIS systems may be considered.
- Candidates with limited professional experience who possess relevant technical education, training, or GIS experience will be considered.
Work Environment
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment.
- The position requires regular use of a computer and CAD, 3GIS, 811, and other applicable software or systems.
- The employee will work closely with the Director of Construction Services and may interact with other employees involved in construction, engineering, and related Company operations.
- Extended hours may occasionally be required to support project deadlines, customer commitments, construction schedules, or other business needs.
FLSA and Overtime
- This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible for overtime compensation in accordance with applicable federal and state law.
- The employee is required to accurately record all hours worked in accordance with Company timekeeping policies.
- Overtime or extended work hours may be required based on business needs and should be worked in accordance with Company overtime policies and applicable supervisor approval requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication.
