  • Regular schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:30 AM–6:30 PM.

  • The position requires flexibility to occasionally work beyond the scheduled end time based on business and operational needs.

  • Weekends: Must be available to work at least two Saturdays per month. Typically, this will be two Saturdays, but there may be occasional months requiring a third Saturday based on staffing and operational needs.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.

  • This position operates in a high-volume, extremely fast-paced environment where employees are expected to manage multiple priorities while maintaining speed, accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Successful employees will be comfortable making decisions based on the circumstances of each individual situation rather than relying solely on a predetermined process or protocol.

  • Employees are expected to communicate effectively, support their team, take initiative, and remain focused and professional during periods of high workload.

Responsible for entering and processing prescriptions into the pharmacy operating system with both speed and accuracy. Communicates with customers on the telephone and responds quickly and courteously to their needs.

This is an extremely fast-paced environment where the ability to prioritize, multitask, manage time effectively, and remain focused under pressure is essential. The role requires someone who can use sound judgment when situations do not always have a clearly defined answer and who is comfortable evaluating each situation individually to determine the appropriate next steps.

Essential Job Functions

  • Enter new and refill prescriptions into the operating system accurately and efficiently to help eliminate errors at dispensing.

  • Triage incoming fax prescriptions to ensure timely dispensing.

  • Ensure proper notes are entered into the computer system and appropriate cycle-fill coding is completed.

  • Calculate and/or verify the correct dosage based on the prescription.

  • Demonstrate caring, understanding, and courtesy when responding to customer calls. Route calls appropriately to ensure a high level of service.

  • Ensure all prescriptions assigned for processing are completed during the scheduled shift whenever possible.

  • Receive, evaluate, process, and follow up as needed with doctors' offices on assigned refills.

  • Develop proficiency in the utilization of all pharmacy systems, including document imaging and legacy pharmacy computer operating systems.

  • Assist, as needed, with filing completed orders, packaging medications, inventory, profiling orders for medical records, and filling processed prescriptions for dispensing to patients.

  • Develop proficiency in the cycle-fill process in order to meet delivery deadlines. Maintain data-entry records for cycle medications, fill requests, and medication orders requiring renewal, in addition to new cycle orders as applicable.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting established deadlines.

  • Use sound judgment to determine the appropriate course of action when situations require individual assessment and may not have a clearly defined protocol.

  • Take initiative to identify and address issues that could impact workflow, accuracy, service, or delivery deadlines.

  • Other essential functions and duties may be assigned as needed.

Education and/or Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (per state requirements).

  • Pharmacy Technician license/certification/registration (per state requirements).

  • National Certification preferred (PTCB).

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of related pharmacy experience (advanced degree may substitute for experience).

  • Pharmacy technician experience in a high-volume or fast-paced environment preferred.

  • Advanced computer skills; pharmacy operating system experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to effectively multitask and prioritize competing responsibilities.

  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.

  • Ability to deliver accurate work within strict deadlines.

  • Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions with minimal direction.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to remain focused and productive in an extremely fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Ability to adapt when priorities change or unexpected situations arise.

  • Quality-minded and motivated to identify errors, ask questions, and investigate anything that appears inaccurate.

  • Demonstrates initiative, dependability, and a strong willingness to learn.

  • Receptive to coaching and constructive feedback.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities without becoming overwhelmed and maintain a professional, solution-focused approach.
