Job Summary

The Technical Coatings Engineer is a key technical support resource that provides innovative temporary surface protection product solutions and reports findings to help educate and provide technical expertise to internal and external customers. This role is focused on customer application and process test simulations in our lab that includes a variety of environmental and performance specification test conditions.  This role will work closely with our technical staff, New Product Development, sales, marketing, and customers on projects with a variety of applications, products, and materials.

 

Job Functions

  • Responsible for leading tests and qualifications of temporary surface protection products appropriate for customer applications and processes.
  • Provide support to address positive solutions toward sustainability, quality, and process improvement objectives.
  • Represent PF&C by advising and consulting on protective surface product best practices to address client needs.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and thought leadership within the Pregis PF&C surface protection team.
  • Manage projects that support best in class product performance objectives and improvement goals.
  • Produce samples and prototypes as part of the deliverable to our customers.
  • Analysis of data and trends to produce reports and presentations to propose to our clients
  • Utilize an internal and external testing lab to validate a solution using customer specification, ASTM, and Tappi protocols.
  • Interface with product development, sales, marketing, operations, and customers on a regular basis
  • Design and execute testing and experimentation programs.
  • Provide training on solutions and trends to internal and external partners.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and lab equipment software
  • Up to 20% domestic travel to support application understanding and sales support.

 

Experience & Abilities

  • Either 2 years’ experience in coatings processes and development or five years’ experience in a product development field.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail and quality inspection with a tactical mindset to drive product solutions and to develop new and innovative surface protection solutions across numerous market and product channels.
  • High level of critical thinking and technical problem solving.
  • Daily manufacturing and operations exposure
  • Ability to influence and accomplish work through cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Able to lift weight up to 40 lbs. on occasion.
  • Exposure to and basic proficiency in test software packages, including, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).

 

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering. A combination of experience, and education comparable to a Bachelor of Science will be considered.
