Position Summary

The Territory Development Manager is InterBel Telephone Cooperative's forward-deployed growth engine for the Kalispell market, the fastest-growing segment of our service area. This role owns local subscriber growth, developer and MDU/subdivision relationships, and small-to-midsize commercial prospecting from the ground up. The ideal candidate brings genuine telecommunications industry knowledge — including wholesale/carrier relationships and hosted VoIP — combined with strong relationship-building and closing skills, so they can move deals forward independently. This role also requires excellent attention to detail: the Territory Development Manager is responsible for documenting all sales activity in InterBel's CRM system and for writing service orders that hand off cleanly to operations and installation. This role partners closely with InterBel's Sales Engineer/Solutions Architect on the most complex technical opportunities but is expected to own the full sales cycle — including order accuracy — on standard residential, developer, and small commercial agreements.

What Type of Person Will Succeed

  • Self-directed and locally embedded — comfortable working independently in the field, building a local presence in Kalispell rather than operating remotely from headquarters.
  • Technically and industry conversant — understands wholesale/carrier relationships, hosted VoIP, fiber vs. fixed wireless, and how bundled managed services solve a customer's problem.
  • Urgency-driven — treats every unclosed opportunity as a cost, and moves quickly on developer, subdivision, and commercial leads before competitors do.
  • Relationship-focused — genuinely invested in the long-term relationship with customers, developers, and the community, consistent with InterBel's cooperative roots.
  • Skilled at deal-closing — has a proven track record of developing relationships from first conversation through signed, closed agreement.
  • Detail-oriented and precise — documents everything accurately and consistently — CRM entries, contract terms, and service orders — understanding that a small error at the point of sale creates real downstream cost during installation.
  • Organized and pipeline-disciplined — able to manage a multi-stage pipeline of residential, developer, and commercial opportunities simultaneously without letting any go cold or any paperwork lag.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and grow InterBel's presence in NW Kalispell, including the existing pipeline of subdivision, MDU, and developer relationships.
  • Build, negotiate, and close new residential bulk/developer and subdivision agreements from initial contact through signed contract.
  • Identify, prospect, and close new small-to-midsize commercial accounts in the Kalispell market.
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with local developers, property managers, chambers of commerce, and other community stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Kalispell-area prospects and customers throughout the sales cycle, from first contact through close and handoff to installation.
  • Apply working knowledge of wholesale/carrier arrangements and hosted VoIP to structure deals accurately and identify the right solution for each customer's needs.
  • Partner directly with InterBel's Sales Engineer/Solutions Architect on opportunities requiring custom technical design (UCaaS, SDWAN, P2P/P2MP, managed services), participating in joint sales calls.
  • Accurately document all sales activity, customer interactions, and pipeline status in InterBel's CRM system, keeping records current and complete.
  • Write clear, accurate, and complete service orders for all closed business, ensuring smooth handoff to operations and installation teams and minimizing rework or installation delays.
  • Represent InterBel at local events, chambers of commerce, and community functions in the Kalispell area.
  • Provide regular pipeline and market feedback to the Sales and Marketing Director to inform territory strategy and resourcing.
  • Stay current on competitor offerings, wholesale market conditions, and technology trends specific to the Kalispell growth corridor.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of sales experience, with a demonstrated ability to close deals independently; telecommunications industry experience required, including exposure to wholesale/carrier relationships and hosted VoIP.
  • Demonstrated success building and closing developer, subdivision, or MDU agreements, from first relationship through signed contract.
  • Working knowledge of broadband, UCaaS, and related technology products sufficient to have a credible first-level technical conversation without backup.
  • Existing familiarity with, or ability to quickly build relationships within, the Kalispell/NW Kalispell business and development community.
  • Strong attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to maintain accurate CRM records and write service orders.
  • Proven ability to manage a multi-stage sales pipeline and drive opportunities to close with minimal oversight.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM software and Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to work primarily in the field across the Kalispell area, with periodic travel to InterBel's Eureka headquarters.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $68,000 to $75,000, depending on experience and qualifications, paired with a commission-weighted incentive structure tied to net-new subscriber signups, bulk/developer agreements, and commercial revenue closed. At plan, total compensation is targeted between $88,000 and $95,000, with realistic upside beyond that range given the scale of the existing developer and MDU pipeline in NW Kalispell. This compensation framework reflects benchmarking against comparable rural telecom field sales roles at similarly sized cooperatives.

In addition to base salary and commission, InterBel offers a comprehensive benefits package including company vehicle, health insurance, dental coverage, 401k matching, gym membership, and paid time off, reflecting our commitment to attracting and retaining top talent in a supportive, growth-oriented environment.
