Summary: Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental health & safety (EHS) programs across multiple business units comprising Hendrick Motorsports and Hendrick Motorsports Technical Solutions. This role is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture and ensuring regulatory compliance while serving as a visible and collaborative leader at all levels of the organization from the executive suite to the production floor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This job does not have direct supervisory responsibility, however, frequently directs and impacts the work of others.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain all required written safety programs and support training, including but not limited to:

    • Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO)

    • Confined Space Entry (permit and non-permit)

    • Fall Protection

    • PPE Hazard Assessments

    • Machine Guarding

    • Electrical Safe Work Practices (NFPA 70E)

    • Industrial Hygiene Sampling Strategies

    • Mobile Equipment (forklifts, scissor lifts, aerial lifts)

    • Hoists and Cranes Operation and Inspections

    • Periodic Safety Inspections

  • Identify safety and health training needs and develop plans to ensure that leaders and employees have the necessary knowledge

  • Design and deliver new employee safety orientation

  • Serve as a constant and visible resource on the shop floor to interact with leaders and employees

  • Support and guide the safety committee’s structure, representation, and training

  • Select and manage supplemental EHS resources and vendors (industrial hygiene, crane inspections, environmental, etc.)

  • Establish and track EHS KPIs and report regularly on performance

  • Oversee fleet safety/DOT programs

  • Serve as a resource for the aviation department to address non-flight safety issues (ground/hangar safety)

  • Partner with business unit leaders to develop and manage the annual EHS budgets

  • Oversee leadership, supervisor, and employee safety development

  • Conduct and update PPE hazard assessments and ensure that the requirements are communicated

  • Lead pre-startup safety reviews for all new construction and relocated equipment

  • Conduct project safety reviews pre- and mid-installation

  • Develop and monitor a contractor safety pre-qualification and management program

  • Develop and implement an OSHA response protocol and training

  • Establish and monitor a formal new chemical approval process

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • 10+ years of progressive EHS experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role

  • Experience in heavy mechanical or advanced manufacturing environments is required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or a related field preferred

  • CSP certification preferred

  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing EHS programs across complex operations

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and engage at all organizational levels

  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and state/federal safety and health regulations

  • Project management, program development, and team leadership capabilities

  • Intermediate understanding of industrial hygiene and environmental practices (consultants available for support)

  • Proficiency in data analysis, metric development, and cost-benefit evaluation

  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams to achieve program and project outcomes.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, bend, twist, squat; and sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; and lift up to 100 lbs.

Environment Demands:

Duties are performed primarily at Hendrick Motorsports in Concord, NC with minimal direct supervision.  Work includes frequent walking throughout more than one (1) million square feet of facilities across multiple buildings encompassing the Hendrick Motorsports campus.  Work will consistently be performed in variable weather conditions and climates, also working both indoors and outdoors. Minimal travel required – travel may be by car or plane.

Attendance Expectations:

The position requires regular and predictable attendance. Position is not remote. Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
