Overview: Â The IT Engineering Technician supports the deployment, configuration, testing, integration, and lifecycle support of Nomad Total Command (NTC) hardware and related systems, as well as the configuration and testing of IT Engineering (ITE) hardware and software. Working closely with IT Engineering, Embedded Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service, this role executes engineering-defined processes while ensuring hardware is correctly configured, validated, documented, and supported throughout production and deployment.
The IT Engineering Technician serves as the primary technical resource responsible for hardware configuration, firmware deployment, production support, system validation, and field troubleshooting. The primary responsibility is supporting NTC systems, with secondary responsibilities as set forth below and to be completed as time is available.
Essential Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities – NTC Hardware Support
NTC Hardware Configuration & Deployment
- Configure NTC hardware according to engineering documentation and customer requirements.
- Flash firmware onto embedded controllers, sensors, communication modules, and supporting hardware.
- Verify firmware revisions and hardware compatibility prior to deployment.
- Apply engineering-approved system configurations and configuration files.
- Prepare production-ready NTC hardware for manufacturing and customer projects.
- Verify configured systems meet engineering and production requirements before release.
- Use configuration tools to produce configuration files for NTC.
Hardware Integration
- Install or assist with installation of embedded controllers, sensors, operator interfaces, networking hardware, and supporting equipment.
- Assemble prototype systems and engineering test hardware.
- Verify wiring, communication networks, connectors, and power distribution.
Testing & Validation
- Execute engineering-developed functional and validation test procedures.
- Test hardware on dedicated test boards before delivery to production while documenting results and raising issues with Engineering.
- Assist with production acceptance testing of NTC hardware.
- Verify communication across CAN, Ethernet, serial, and other embedded communication networks.
- Collect diagnostic information, system logs, and test results.
- Assist with environmental, vehicle, production, and field validation testing.
- Document testing results and report abnormalities to Engineering.
Production Support
- Support Production during NTC hardware installation and commissioning.
- Troubleshoot routine hardware configuration issues using established engineering procedures.
- Escalate hardware design or software-related issues to Engineering.
- Verify customer systems prior to shipment.
- Occasional travel to Libby, MT to support NTC production, integration, and commissioning activities.
- Perform basic field support activities, including firmware updates, hardware configuration, and routine troubleshooting, while escalating complex technical issues to Engineering.
Troubleshooting & Field Support
- Troubleshoot NTC hardware, wiring, connectors, sensors, communication devices, and supporting electronics.
- Replace defective hardware modules and verify system operation.
- Collect information supporting engineering root cause investigations.
- Support field personnel during installation and service activities.
- Document corrective actions and recurring issues.
Documentation & Configuration Management
- Maintain hardware configuration records.
- Record firmware revisions and hardware versions.
- Document production changes and hardware modifications.
- Update troubleshooting documentation and assembly procedures.
- Maintain engineering build records and configuration history.
- Assist with engineering-developed hardware configuration automation tools.
Cross Functional Support
- Support Embedded Systems Engineering during prototype development.
- Support Embedded Systems Engineering during hardware integration activities.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, Production, and Field Service to resolve hardware-related issues.
- Participate in project meetings as needed and document technical action items.
- Assist Engineering with prototype assembly, validation, and deployment.
Secondary Responsibilities – ITE Hardware & Software Support
- Configure, deploy, and maintain hardware, firmware, and system configurations in accordance with engineering and customer requirements.
- Install, integrate, and validate ITE released designs to include networking equipment, audio visual equipment, surveillance equipment, radio equipment, satellite equipment, and security equipment.
- Perform hardware provisioning, firmware updates, software configuration, and system commissioning activities.
- Execute functional, validation, acceptance, and communication testing while documenting results and escalating issues as needed.
- Troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, configuration, and system performance issues using established support procedures.
- Collect and analyze diagnostic logs, firmware versions, and system data to support problem resolution and root cause investigations.
- Provide production, manufacturing, and field support during installation, deployment, and commissioning activities.
- Support end users, field technicians, and cross-functional teams with technical issue resolution and system troubleshooting.
- Maintain configuration management records, asset documentation, firmware inventories, and deployment histories.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Service teams to resolve technical issues and implement corrective actions.
- Assist with prototype development, system integration, testing, and deployment of new technologies and hardware solutions.
- Support automation tools, technical documentation, knowledge bases, and troubleshooting procedures to improve operational efficiency.
- Verify system readiness and operational performance prior to customer delivery and production release.
- Provide remote and onsite technical support, including occasional travel for deployment, integration, maintenance, and support activities.

Qualifications:
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Electronics Technology, Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field.
- Experience troubleshooting electronic or computer-based systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience flashing firmware and configuring embedded hardware preferred.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals including Ethernet and TCP/IP.
- Experience using diagnostic equipment including multimeters and other electronic test equipment.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while following engineering procedures.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional climbing or hands-on testing activities.Â
- Ability to work in office, shop, and vehicle environments as needed.Â
- Ability to work safely around energized systems when required.
- Must be able to travel as needed on occasion.
