At Ashley | The Wellsville Group, we’re looking for an Area Manager who knows that great retail teams don’t happen by accident. They’re built by leaders who are present, consistent, coach their teams, and know how to turn business goals into results on the sales floor.

As an Area Manager, you’ll lead and support multiple showrooms across your market, partnering closely with General Managers and store leaders to drive sales, develop talent, elevate the customer experience, and create teams people want to be part of. You’ll spend time where the action happens—on the sales floor, in the showroom, and alongside your leaders—using data, observation, and coaching to identify opportunities and improve performance.

This position can be based in either our Liverpool, NY or Camillus, NY showroom, supporting the stores within those markets.

What You’ll Do

Lead From the Sales Floor

  • Partner closely with General Managers and store leaders, regularly walking the sales floor, observing the business, coaching in the moment, and modeling what great leadership and selling look like.
  • Develop strong leaders who can build engaged, accountable, high-performing retail teams.
  • Ensure stores are staffed appropriately and leaders are actively recruiting, onboarding, coaching, and developing their teams.
  • Help leaders prioritize their time and focus on the activities that have the greatest impact on sales and customer experience.
  • Use coaching, guided learning, role-play, and best-practice sharing to help leaders and sales teams continually improve.

Drive Sales & Store Performance

  • Review daily, weekly, and historical sales and performance data to understand what’s working, where opportunities exist, and what needs to change.
  • Partner with GMs to create actionable plans that improve sales, conversion, productivity, staffing, and overall showroom performance.
  • Hold leaders accountable to goals while providing the coaching and support they need to achieve them.
  • Identify trends and opportunities across the market and share strategies that can be replicated across showrooms.
  • Maintain oversight of operational execution, ensuring each showroom is clean, organized, customer-ready, and operating efficiently and profitably.

Create an Exceptional Customer Experience

  • Champion a customer-first selling culture across every showroom.
  • Coach leaders on creating a welcoming, engaging experience from the moment a customer walks through the door.
  • Help teams consistently execute our selling process and deliver an experience that keeps customers coming back.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the customer journey and overall showroom experience.

Support, Collaborate & Influence

  • Work closely with retail leadership and cross-functional partners to align on business priorities and share market insights.
  • Champion company initiatives, new selling strategies, technology, reporting tools, and other programs that support our stores and teams.
  • Bring best practices from one showroom to another and help create consistency across the market.
  • Represent our culture and expectations every day by modeling professionalism, accountability, and our Vision, Mission, and Values.

What You Bring

  • Proven leadership experience in a retail, sales, hospitality, or similar customer-focused environment; multi-unit leadership experience is a plus.
  • A track record of developing leaders and improving team performance.
  • Strong business and sales acumen, with the ability to look at the numbers and understand the story behind them.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with everyone from sales consultants to senior leadership.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills—you’ll be balancing multiple stores, priorities, and leaders.
  • A hands-on leadership style and willingness to spend significant time in the showrooms and on the sales floor.
  • High initiative and the ability to work independently while staying connected to the larger team.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office and business tools such as Basecamp, OneNote, BI reporting, and other technology.
  • Ability to travel throughout the market and occasionally outside the market as needed.
  • Most importantly, a genuine passion for developing people and helping teams win.
