The Eriksson College of Education at Austin Peay State University (APSU) invites applications for a three-year temporary instructor position in the Educational Specialties department, primarily in the MAEd Educational Leadership Studies program, beginning July 30, 2027.

This practitioner-focused program is designed to prepare aspiring school leaders for principal licensure in Tennessee. Coursework is grounded in applied leadership contexts and aligned to the Tennessee Instructional Leadership Standards (TILS). Candidates with direct school and/or district leadership experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues while supporting the mission of the College and University
  • Graduate-level teaching in educational leadership, primarily in the MAEd program
  • Academic advising and student support
  • Service to the department, College, and University
  • Administrative tasks for program support
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess the knowledge, talents, and skills in educational leadership to support effective teaching
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations in the University setting and the public
  • Ability to problem-solve and think critically
  • Ability to collaborate for program support and continuous improvement
  • Experience with online course design with updates in current research and professional practices
  • Experience with online teaching and student support

 

Preferred expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • School law
  • Instructional leadership
  • School improvement
  • Organizational leadership
  • Principal preparation, educator licensure, or field-based mentorship

    Physical Requirements

    Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

    Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated P-12 school or district leadership experience (e.g., principal, assistant principal, district administrator, instructional coach)
  • Familiarity with Tennessee educator licensure requirements and principal preparation standards
  • Experience teaching or mentoring adult learners in applied or field-based settings
  • Earned doctorate (EdD or Ph.D.) from an accredited institution in Educational Leadership or a closely related field. ABD with a degree conferral by July 30, 2027 would be considered.
