JAIL DIVISION – MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR

Position Summary

The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a dependable, experienced, and highly skilled Maintenance Director to oversee the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the Amos G. Ward Detention Facility. This position plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, secure, and functional environment for detention officers, inmates, and other personnel.

The Maintenance Director will be responsible for identifying and addressing facility maintenance needs, performing preventative and emergency repairs, and ensuring critical jail systems remain operational. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience and working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and general building maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Oversee the daily maintenance and repair needs of the detention facility.

· Conduct routine inspections of inmate housing areas, staff areas, mechanical rooms, and other jail facilities to identify maintenance and safety concerns.

· Perform preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance and repairs.

· Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems, including heating, air conditioning, ventilation, thermostats, and related equipment.

· Perform plumbing repairs, including toilets, sinks, drains, water lines, valves, showers, and related fixtures.

· Perform electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, including lighting, outlets, switches, fixtures, and other electrical components within applicable licensing requirements.

· Perform carpentry and general construction, including doors, frames, walls, ceilings, flooring, shelving, cabinetry, and other facility repairs.

· Maintain and repair security-related equipment and infrastructure, including doors, locks, gates, fixtures, and other components essential to facility security.

· Respond promptly to maintenance issues that could affect inmate safety, staff safety, sanitation, security, or normal jail operations.

· Maintain and document a preventative maintenance schedule for facility equipment and systems.

· Coordinate with Jail Division supervisors before performing work in secure inmate areas.

· Maintain strict accountability of tools, equipment, parts, and materials brought into secured areas.

· Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when specialized repairs are required and monitor work to ensure completion.

· Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance requests, parts, and equipment.

· Maintain adequate inventory of commonly needed maintenance supplies and parts.

· Assist with facility improvements, renovations, construction projects, and other projects as assigned.

· Immediately report security, safety, or structural concerns to Jail Division command staff.

· Respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies when necessary to prevent disruption to jail operations.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Jail-Specific Expectations

The Maintenance Director must understand that maintenance work inside a detention facility is different from traditional building maintenance. Security, inmate accountability, staff safety, and sanitation must remain a priority during all maintenance activities.

The successful candidate must be able to work professionally around inmates and detention personnel, follow all Jail Division security procedures, comply with tool and equipment accountability requirements, and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruption to jail operations.

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED.

· Demonstrated experience in facility, commercial, or institutional maintenance.

· Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.

· Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.

· Ability to prioritize emergency and routine maintenance needs.

· Valid Oklahoma driver's license.

· Ability to successfully complete all background and employment requirements of the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience maintaining a jail, detention center, correctional facility, law-enforcement facility, hospital, or other secure/institutional facility.

· HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or other applicable certifications or licenses.

· Carpentry or construction experience.

· Preventative maintenance experience.

· Experience coordinating contractors and maintenance projects.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be dependable, self-motivated, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently while maintaining effective communication with Jail Division command staff and detention personnel. The Maintenance Director should take a proactive approach to identifying problems before they become major repairs or operational issues and

understand that maintaining the facility is an important part of maintaining the overall safety and security of the Amos G. Ward Detention Facility.
