The Software Architect, Client Technology is a hands-on technical leader responsible for the architectural direction, engineering quality, and technical evolution of Mike Albert Fleet Solutions’ customer-facing technology ecosystem. This role shapes how client-facing applications, partner integrations, core services, and the enterprise data platform work together to support fleet-management workflows, secure B2B data exchange, ingestion, reporting, and analytics. The successful candidate is both an accomplished software engineer and a systems architect. They will write and review production code, lead complex technical design work, establish engineering patterns and standards, and influence delivery across application and data engineering teams. This is not a people-management, pre-sales, consulting, or architecture-only role. Architecture leadership must be grounded in deep, current, hands-on software development experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own and evolve the technical architecture for customer-facing applications, integration services, partner APIs, event and messaging workflows, and associated data-platform capabilities.
- Define practical target-state architecture and phased technical roadmaps that translate product and business objectives into executable engineering plans.
- Serve as a hands-on engineering leader: write production code, conduct deep code and design reviews, troubleshoot complex cross-system issues, and help deliver high-risk or high-complexity work.
- Establish and socialize architecture patterns, engineering standards, and design principles for application development, integrations, data exchange, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Design and govern integration approaches across synchronous APIs, asynchronous messaging, batch processes, serverless capabilities, and partner data exchanges.
- Lead technical design reviews and document key architecture decisions, trade-offs, risks, dependencies, and implementation guidance.
- Partner with Product, business analysts, subject-matter experts, Application Support, Data Engineering, and other technical teams to turn ambiguous needs into cohesive technical solutions.
- Provide technical mentorship and influence to senior software developers and data engineers without direct people-management responsibility.
- Identify architectural debt, integration risk, data-quality concerns, and operational weaknesses; prioritize practical improvements in partnership with engineering and product leadership.
- Help define effective development workflows, code-review expectations, testing practices, release readiness, and production-support standards across teams.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Inside average office environment. Average office noise levels. No personal protective equipment is required. Ambient temperature is between 68 and 76F.
REQUIREMENTS: Â
- 10+ years of progressive, hands-on software engineering experience, including substantial experience designing, building, and operating production business applications.
- Demonstrated experience operating at Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Lead Engineer, or similarly senior technical-architecture scope; demonstrable evidence of cross-team technical leadership and sustained engineering contribution.
- Strong full-stack software-development background, with the ability to read, write, review, and troubleshoot production application code.
- Proven experience designing distributed systems and enterprise integrations using APIs, messaging/event-driven patterns, batch data exchange, and appropriate synchronous and asynchronous communication models.
- Experience owning technical decisions across multiple teams, applications, and data domains, while influencing without formal management authority.
- Strong ability to assess and communicate technical trade-offs involving delivery speed, scalability, reliability, data integrity, security, operational support, and long-term maintainability.
- Experience with B2B integrations, API strategy, partner onboarding, secure data sharing, high-volume data ingestion, and data egress.
- Practical experience with modern data-architecture patterns, including CDC, medallion or layered data models, bronze/silver/gold concepts, SCD Type 2, data quality, schema evolution, and data-contract considerations.
- Experience working with relational databases and enterprise data platforms; familiarity with environments that include Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, AWS, and varied partner technologies is preferred.
- Experience working across Linux and Windows environments and with containerized development and deployment workflows, including Docker.
- A track record of developing other engineers through design guidance, constructive code review, standards, and mentorship.
