Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY/BASIC PURPOSE OF JOB: The Clinical Nurse Psychiatric Nurse Educator holds a Masters degree in nursing and has demonstrated clinical competence in psychiatric-mental health nursing. She/he possesses knowledge and skills in principles of adult education and communication with colleagues. The Nurse Educator collaborates with nursing and physician leaders as well as other care providers.

The Nurse Educator develops and maintains. Provides education and evaluation to nursing and patient care staff, and facilitates evidenced-based research within a specialized area of nursing. Collaborates with medical practitioners to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for a specialized group of patients. Performs direct specialty nursing services to patients as required, ensuring adherence to Joint Commission standards and all related policies, procedures, and guidelines.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Masters degree in Nursing;

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of protocol, procedures, and standards within the area of behavioral health nursing expertise.
  • Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in area of specialty.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Ability to assess educational needs and design and develop responsible curricula.
  • Working knowledge of the use of established care models in the development of education programs.
  • Technical leadership skills within the area of expertise.
  • Advanced nursing skills in area of specialty.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care plans.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.

CERTIFICATIONS / TRAINING:

  • Certification/Licensure in the State of Illinois.
