The Role:

Work Model: Onsite
Work Schedule: Approximately 40 hours per week; schedule may include nights and weekends as needed, with overtime as scheduled.
Travel Requirements: No overnight travel required

Reports to: Equipment & Maintenance Manager

Summary / Primary Role:

The Mechanic I works alongside other mechanics to perform regular inspections, preventative maintenance, routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on company tractors and trailers. This role ensures vehicles and shop equipment are properly maintained and repaired in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations. The position works under the direction of the lead mechanic to ensure assigned work is completed properly and efficiently.

What You'll Do:

We are seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined individual who can support the maintenance and repair of company tractors, trailers, and shop equipment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and reliability.

  • Vehicle Inspection & Preventative Maintenance
    • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers.
    • Examine critical components including belts, hoses, steering systems, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
    • Perform routine services such as oil changes, lubrication, and tune-ups.
  • Diagnostics & Repairs
    • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues involving tractors and shop equipment.
    • Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other measurement devices.
    • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturer performance specifications.
    • Complete general repairs and adjustments according to company and manufacturer specifications.
  • Safety & Shop Operations
    • Follow maintenance procedures, shop rules, and applicable safety regulations.
    • Review work orders and communicate with supervisors, mechanics, and drivers regarding vehicle issues and required work.
    • Maintain and repair shop equipment while keeping the work environment clean and orderly.
    • Participate in required training programs, safety events, meetings, and company functions.

What You Bring:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required; vocational hires may be high school seniors with graduation pending.
  • One year of experience as a diesel mechanic or recent graduation from a technical institution.
  • Must own and maintain adequate hand tools; vocational hires may purchase tools through the shop purchase program.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting, and diagnostic abilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and demonstrate personal accountability.
  • Reliable, punctual, resourceful, and able to take initiative.
  • Ability to work varying hours, including nights and weekends, as necessary.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

This is a safety-sensitive, physically demanding mechanic position. The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and working underneath tractors/trailers using a creeper. The position may require lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds occasionally and exposure to noise, vibration, fumes, oils, dust, gases, chemicals, electrical current, and moving vehicle parts.

This position is designated as safety sensitive and includes a 5-panel drug test that includes marijuana.

No relocation allowance will be considered unless specifically addressed. All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
