Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus as a Panel Shop Intern. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the assembly, wiring, testing, and inspection of electrical control and relay panels used in utility, substation, and power delivery applications. Working alongside experienced technicians and wiremen, you will assist with panel fabrication, electrical wiring, quality inspections, and testing activities while developing practical skills in electrical assembly, schematic interpretation, and shop operations. 

This internship is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing careers in electrical technology, engineering, skilled trades, or related technical fields who are interested in the electric utility and power infrastructure industry. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the assembly, wiring, and inspection of relay and control panels used in electric utility and substation applications.  
  • Support panel shop technicians in building panels according to engineered drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.  
  • Learn to read and interpret electrical layouts, wiring diagrams, schematics, and assembly drawings.  
  • Assist with point-to-point continuity testing and verification of panel wiring.  
  • Help perform inspections of electrical frames, panels, and associated equipment to ensure quality standards are met.  
  • Support verification of DC power and control circuits under the guidance of experienced team members.  
  • Utilize hand tools, measuring devices, and basic electrical testing equipment safely and effectively.  
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.  
  • Follow company safety procedures, quality requirements, and standard operating practices.  
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, or currently enrolled in a high school, technical school, trade program, community college, or university pursuing a technical degree.  
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.  
  • Ability to safely use basic hand tools.  
  • Ability to read a tape measure and other common measuring devices.  
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.  
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.  
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.  
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform work in a manufacturing/shop environment.
