Summary: 

Huntington’s internship programs provide emerging talent with meaningful, hands‑on experience aligned to their area of study. Over the course of the interns’ time at Huntington, they gain exposure to key business functions across all segments of the organization. An intern’s experience should be focused on professional growth, skill development, and practical application of academic learning. Interns participate in a structured series of development opportunities, including interactions with senior leadership and career pathing insights. The experience also includes immersion in Huntington’s award‑winning culture through community involvement and team‑based activities. Internships at Huntington are designed to help students build a strong foundation for future career success while contributing to meaningful business initiatives. 

Internship Opportunities at Huntington: 

Huntington offers internship opportunities for students who are currently enrolled in an academic program and seeking practical, hands‑on experience in their field of study.  Internships take place during a defined period of time and are available across all business segments. 

  • Rising juniors (Winter 2028 or Spring 2029 grads) may participate in Huntington's Foundations Program, an 8-week, regionally focused experience where students partner directly with a manager and team, contribute to meaningful projects, build professional skills, and explore career opportunities across Huntington and the financial services industry.

All interns participate in a variety of developmental and professional activities designed to support learning and exposure to the organization. Depending on your school year, program components may include: 

  • Experience in day‑to‑day responsibilities related to their assigned team 

  • Exposure to broader business functions 

  • A structured schedule of professional development sessions 

  • Opportunities to engage with members of the Executive Leadership Team 

  • Discussions with senior leaders regarding career paths and Huntington’s business areas 

  • A team project focused on applying Huntington’s innovation framework to a business‑relevant problem 

  • Participation in volunteer activities and internal events aligned with Huntington’s culture 

 

Corporate Responsibility Communications Internship Overview:  

Within Corporate Communications, interns gain hands-on exposure to Corporate Responsibility Communications with a focus on internal communications, executive communications, philanthropy and community relations. Students partner directly with communications professionals to contribute to meaningful projects and initiatives while developing knowledge of employee communications, leadership messaging, community impact programs (i.e., Pelotonia) and corporate responsibility strategies. 

Interns may write and edit content and articles,  support executive and employee communications, develop content for philanthropic and community initiatives and help tell stories that highlight Huntington's impact in the communities it serves. Successful candidates are curious, collaborative and eager to explore careers in Corporate Responsibility Communications and Corporate Communications. 

  

External Communications/Public Relations Internship Overview:  

Within Corporate Communications, interns gain hands-on experience in External Communications and Public Relations while partnering with communications professionals on meaningful projects and initiatives. Students will develop practical skills in media relations, executive communications, content development, narrative building, brand storytelling and social media. 

  

Interns may write and edit content, support media relations activities, help develop communications and media strategies, research industry trends and contribute to storytelling that showcases Huntington’s products, services and expertise. Successful candidates are curious, collaborative and eager to explore careers in External Communications, Public Relations and Corporate Communications. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate directly with your manager 

  • Support organization and department initiatives 

  • Provide recommendations to improve your department 

  • Work both independently and within a team 

  • Exhibit a professional, business-like demeanor 

  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills 

  • Aptitude - proficiency with computer software, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite 

  • Take initiative to achieve personal career goals 

  • Participate in all HNB internship events 

  • Energy, enthusiasm, and passion for Huntington! 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • High School graduate 

  • Enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate accredited University with at least one quarter/semester of school after the completion of the summer program. 

  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership through extracurricular activities and/or work experience 

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills 

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team 

  • Proficiency in MicrosoftOffice® applications 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Course(s) of study applicable to the area of business 

  • Ability to maintain professional composure in a dynamic work environment that often requires management and completion of multiple tasks 

  • Demonstrate sound judgment and ability to apply logical/critical thought processes when developing solutions 

  • Ability to display a positive business presence with management and external personnel 

  • A strong interest in Banking as a career 

  • Relevant Majors: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Human Resources.  

  • Relevant Coursework: Communications, Public Relations, Journalist, News Writing, and Reporting, Strategic Communications, Media Writing, Digital Media, Marketing Communications.  

  • Preferred Skills & Interests: Strong interest in communications, public relations, journalism, or digital media; excellent writing and editing skills; familiarity with AP Style; attention to detail; strong organizational skills; and an interest in developing engaging content for internal and external audiences.
