Job Summary

The Lead Salesforce Platform Engineer is the hands-on technical owner and subject matter expert for ACN's Salesforce platform. This role combines deep Salesforce platform knowledge, strong software engineering capability, solution design, and technical leadership. The engineer is expected to understand the platform end-to-end, own its technical health and evolution, design scalable solutions, participate directly in implementation, and raise the engineering capability of the broader Salesforce team.

This is not a traditional hands-off architect role and is not a people-management position. The Lead Salesforce Platform Engineer will work with Business Analysts, Project/Delivery Management, business stakeholders, and IT leadership after work has entered the approved delivery process to refine requirements, evaluate solution options, and recommend the best technical approach. The role is expected to make sound day-to-day technical decisions independently within established architecture standards, while bringing material architecture decisions to the Architecture Review Board (ARB).

Success requires enterprise judgment as much as Salesforce expertise. The right engineer understands Salesforce as one component of a broader enterprise architecture and can distinguish between what Salesforce can do and what should be implemented on the platform.

Job Duties

Serve as the hands-on technical owner and senior subject matter expert for the Salesforce platform, with accountability for platform health, maintainability, scalability, security, reliability, and technical evolution.

Design end-to-end Salesforce solutions for complex business capabilities, including application components, data models, security, automation, integrations, APIs, event-driven patterns, and dependencies across the enterprise architecture.

Remain directly involved in implementation. Build and modify solutions using Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flow, SOQL/SOSL, asynchronous processing, platform events, APIs, and other appropriate Salesforce capabilities while working alongside less-senior developers.

Evaluate business requirements with Business Analysts, Project/Delivery Management, stakeholders, and IT leadership after work has been approved and prioritized; develop practical solution options and clearly communicate tradeoffs, risks, effort, and recommendations.

Use strong platform knowledge to favor native Salesforce capabilities where they are appropriate and avoid unnecessary custom development; equally, recognize when a requirement is better implemented outside Salesforce and recommend the appropriate enterprise solution.

Make sound day-to-day technical decisions independently within established architecture standards and escalate material architectural decisions, exceptions, or cross-platform impacts through the Architecture Review Board (ARB).

Own and continuously improve the technical health of the Salesforce estate, including technical debt, governor-limit utilization, API and event consumption, failed or asynchronous processing, performance, deprecated functionality, release impacts, integration health, security configuration, and platform reliability.

Provide technical leadership to Salesforce developers through solution design, pairing, code reviews, troubleshooting, reusable patterns, engineering standards, and mentoring; improve team velocity and quality without becoming a bottleneck or simply absorbing all difficult work.

Establish and promote modern Salesforce engineering practices including modular design, source control, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, deployment discipline, secure coding, and maintainable documentation.

Lead troubleshooting of complex production issues and root-cause analysis across Salesforce and connected systems; coordinate effectively with application, platform, infrastructure, security, and vendor teams as required.

Maintain broad working knowledge of Salesforce platform capabilities, product releases, security changes, limits, deprecations, and relevant roadmap items; proactively identify impacts and opportunities for the organization.

Understand ACN's broader application and integration architecture and ensure Salesforce solutions align with enterprise standards, strategic direction, and long-term platform decisions.

Communicate technical designs and decisions clearly to engineers, business partners, leadership, and governance forums, adjusting the level of detail to the audience while preserving technical accuracy.

Demonstrate ownership, resourcefulness, professional judgment, integrity, curiosity, organization, and pride in the quality and operational sustainability of solutions delivered.

Required Skills and Abilities

8+ years of progressive Salesforce engineering experience, including demonstrated technical ownership or technical leadership of complex production Salesforce environments.

Deep hands-on expertise with Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flow, SOQL/SOSL, asynchronous processing, platform events, and Salesforce application design patterns.

Broad Salesforce platform expertise beyond custom development, including data architecture, security and sharing, automation, integrations, limits, release management, operational health, and platform capabilities.

Strong understanding of Service Cloud and Experience Cloud or comparable workflow- and customer-facing Salesforce implementations.

Demonstrated ability to take a business capability from requirements through solution options, technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.

Strong integration experience with REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, event-driven architectures, authentication/authorization patterns, and enterprise systems outside Salesforce.

Strong software engineering fundamentals and practical experience with Git-based development, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code review, debugging, and modern development practices.

Ability to evaluate build-versus-configure-versus-integrate decisions and recognize when functionality should be implemented outside Salesforce.

Proven ability to mentor and technically lead developers, improve engineering practices, and increase team effectiveness without formal people-management authority.

Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills across application, integration, data, and platform boundaries.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical options, tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Demonstrated ownership, initiative, resourcefulness, organization, ethical judgment, curiosity, and commitment to high-quality engineering outcomes.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of professional experience and demonstrated technical expertise. Practical capability and demonstrated results are valued over academic credentials alone.

Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer I/II, Application Architect, System Architect, or related credentials are valued as supporting evidence of expertise but are not substitutes for demonstrated hands-on engineering capability and production platform ownership.

Experience leading or serving as the senior technical authority for a production Salesforce platform with multiple integrations and business-critical workflows.

Experience with case management, workflow-heavy ecosystems, customer portals, or high-volume Experience Cloud / Service Cloud implementations is strongly preferred.

Experience with enterprise architecture governance, technical design reviews, or Architecture Review Board processes is preferred.

Experience with DevOps, observability, platform performance, release management, and security practices in enterprise environments is preferred.

Experience with other enterprise platforms, cloud services, APIs, or custom application architectures is valuable because this role must make decisions in the context of the broader enterprise, not Salesforce in isolation.
