About the Role

As a Drafter / Shop Drawing Drafter at Z Modular, you will play a key role in developing production-ready shop drawings and fabrication documentation that support the manufacturing of innovative modular construction projects. This position requires strong drafting and modeling skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across design and manufacturing teams, offering the opportunity to directly impact production efficiency and product quality.

You will collaborate with designers, engineers, manufacturing personnel, consultants, and shop trades to ensure drawings and documentation are accurate, coordinated, and aligned with production requirements. This is a hybrid role located in Austin, TX; Chandler, AZ; or Troy, MI.

What You'll Do

  • Develops production-ready models and shop drawings for modular manufacturing operations.
  • Creates drafting packages, exported drawings, and automation files to support fabrication processes.
  • Adapts and develops modular details to address manufacturing requirements and production conditions.
  • Reviews consultant drawings and identifies questions, conflicts, inconsistencies, and coordination issues.
  • Collaborates with Senior Designers to support weekly production schedules and deliverables.
  • Researches and develops new assemblies, products, and components to support innovation initiatives.
  • Partners with shop trades during prototype phases to optimize constructability and manufacturing processes.
  • Maintains accurate and organized project documentation to support production and project execution.
  • Supports cross-functional teams by providing technical drafting expertise and design coordination.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • 2+ years of experience in design for manufacturing, fabrication, drafting, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree or university degree in a related discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience producing shop drawings, construction details, and fabrication documentation.
  • Advanced SolidWorks skills.
  • Working knowledge of Revit.
  • Experience with FrameCAD preferred.
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, manufacturing processes, and production documentation.
  • Ability to identify design conflicts, troubleshoot issues, and propose practical solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across multiple teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational abilities, and time management skills.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Compensation & Benefits

Below is the expected base salary range for this position. This is a good-faith estimate, and offers will be determined based on experience, education, skill set, and interview performance.
