Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist supports a wide range of HR functions across benefits administration, compliance, payroll, recruiting, time and attendance tracking, and employee lifecycle management. They will report directly to the Human Resources Manager and collaborate closely with leadership, employees, and third-party vendors in support of HR systems and programs.


 Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration

  • Assist with managing employee benefit programs (Medical, Dental, Vision, Ancillary Benefits, 401(k), PTO)
  • Assist with coordinating annual open enrollment 
  • Track employee leaves (FMLA, Workers' Comp, etc.)
  • Monitor PTO balances and utilization
  • Audit monthly HR-related vendor invoices
  • Manage insurance coordination and assist employees as needed

Compliance & Records Management

  • Maintain accurate and secure digital personnel records
  • Process personnel changes and update documentation promptly
  • Maintain and review HR policies, procedures, and templates for compliance
  • Assist in policy communication and clarification across teams
  • Conduct regular file purging in line with compliance standards
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws
  • Handle EEO annual filing
  • Assist with 401k and benefit audits for 5500’s
  • Complete reporting requirements for HQ & accounting 

Payroll and Attendance

  • Process payroll across all company entities
  • Manage time and attendance systems and review punch accuracy
  • Monitor attendance in accordance with company policy
  • Process and verify payroll deductions and benefits
  • Prepare biweekly payroll summaries and accounting journal entries
  • File payroll tax returns and process garnishments, child support, tax levies, etc 

Employee Lifecycle & Engagement

  • Support recruiting efforts: screen resumes, conduct reference checks, assist with interviews
  • Conduct onboarding and new hire orientation
  • Maintain employee records and performance review schedules
  • Facilitate communication across departments and act as point of contact for employee inquiries
  • Assist with documentation of performance issues, disciplinary actions, and separations
  • Assist with unemployment claims

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate HR training initiatives (Harassment Prevention, 401k Education)
  • Organize internal employee events and manage company-wide communications
  • Ensure legal postings are displayed across all locations
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and company data
  • Support implementation of new HR initiatives and systems
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • 4 -7 years of Human Resources experience required
  • College degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred
  • PHR/SPHR/SCP/CP certification preferred
  • ADP In-house payroll processing experience strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills
  • Exceptional communicator – both verbally and in writing
  • Self-starter with a willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Familiarity with unionized environments a bonus
  • Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements

  • 75% sedentary (desk/computer work), 25% walking/standing
  • Regular keyboard and mouse use, fine motor skills
    • Occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs.
