Get to Know Your Team: 

• BSA provides 24-hour paramedic care through our ambulance service, which responds to emergencies in Canyon and 825 square miles of Randall County. BSA EMS staffs two stations 24/7/365, one in northern Randall County and one in Canyon.

• The Field Training Officer (FTO) performs a vital role in the transition of a former EMT or a new employee to a functioning lead paramedic or EMT within our system.
• Selection as an FTO demonstrates a history of proficiency and ability as an exemplary employee and lead paramedic.
• As a paramedic, the FTO is accountable for responding to all assigned calls in the most appropriate, efficient manner and providing the highest standards of patient care while keeping a safe and hazard-free environment.
• In the role of Paramedic, the FTO works with an EMT on a MICU ambulance and contributes to overall patient care in the areas of patient assessment, triage, packaging, and transport according to protocol.
• As an FTO, he/she serves as a role model regarding customer service, communication skills, and application and performance of protocol.
• The FTO is responsible for instilling desired qualities and skills in the probationary employee as part of the overall goal of the BSA EMS educational program.

Job Requirements: 

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record.
• International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

• Texas DSHS certification as EMT Paramedic/Licensed Paramedic.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Possess and maintain all certifications required by the Medical Control Board and by the BSA EMS Master Contract.

Preferred Job Requirements:  

• National Registry or Texas DSHS Licensed Paramedic/Equivalent Associate’s Degree.
