Viewpoint School is currently seeking an HVAC/Electrical Technician. This position plays a critical role in maintaining campus infrastructure while supporting the broader operational needs of the school. By combining HVAC and electrical expertise with general maintenance and event support responsibilities, the Facilities Systems Technician helps ensure that campus facilities remain safe, reliable, efficient, and event-ready throughout the year. The HVAC/Electrical Technician – HVAC, Electrical & Event Support is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of campus HVAC, electrical, and building systems. This position also supports general facility maintenance, campus improvement projects, and special events to help ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 HVAC & Building Systems

  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC equipment, including rooftop units, split systems, air handling units, exhaust fans, motors, and controls.
  • Monitor and maintain Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Diagnose and repair HVAC mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors on major repairs and equipment replacements.

 Electrical Systems

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain campus electrical systems and equipment.
  • Maintain lighting systems, emergency lighting, occupancy sensors, motors, breakers, switches, and receptacles.
  • Support electrical infrastructure improvements and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety standards and applicable codes.

 General Facilities Maintenance

  • Assist with a variety of campus maintenance needs including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, door hardware, furniture repairs, and general facility upkeep.
  • Support preventative maintenance programs and campus improvement projects.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and assist in resolving facility-related issues.
  • Collaborate with custodial, grounds, and maintenance staff to support daily campus operations.

 Event Support & Campus Operations

  • Assist with the setup, operation, and breakdown of school events, athletic competitions, performances, and community functions.
  • Provide electrical and technical support for major campus events including Graduation, Homecoming, Open House, athletic events, and special programs.
  • Install and troubleshoot temporary power, lighting, and event-related electrical systems.
  • Assist with event logistics including seating, staging, equipment placement, and infrastructure support.
  • Participate in occasional evening and weekend event coverage as required.

 Safety & Compliance

  • Follow OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and school safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Participate in emergency response and campus preparedness activities.
  • Ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in HVAC, electrical, or commercial facilities maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in HVAC and electrical systems.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

 Preferred

  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
  • HVAC trade certification or apprenticeship.
  • Electrical certification or journeyman-level experience.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Experience in educational, institutional, or campus environments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of commercial HVAC, electrical, and building systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to support both technical systems and campus operational needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Work from ladders, lifts, rooftops, and mechanical spaces.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Compensation: Anticipated compensation is $35.00 - $40.00 per hour depending on experience
