Project Engineering Manager – ARK Project

 

Position Description

Kibali Gold Mine seeks to recruit a Project Engineering Manager for the ARK Project (Feasibility Study). 

This role will be responsible to lead the engineering team and coordinate plant expansion design across disciplines. The focus will be on the integration of the owners engineering team with the EPCM consultant. 

 

You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.

 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Lead the feasibility study for engineering design by creating associated design criteria.

  • Prepare engineering analyses, specifications, capital and operating cost estimates of key equipment and contract works for the project.

  • Provide input on engineering designs and monitor and ensure effective design, project controls, and quality.

  • Estimate CAPEX by identifying major equipment along with their purchasing cost and associated lead times.

  • Prepare major equipment specifications, datasheets, requisitions and bid evaluations.

  • Perform engineering calculations to support design decisions.

  • Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts.

  • Plan and manage budgets.

  • Develop and implement a quality management system with associated quality control programs.

  • Provide direction on engineering scope and requirements to suppliers based on specifications included in the procurement agreement.

  • Ensure that manpower, equipment, tools, materials, and design necessary to support the project schedule will be available.

  • Review of 3D Modelling and manufacturing drawings data packs.

  • Maintain an up-to-date database of critical and insurance spares

  • Drive a strategy to utilise common spares between existing assets, equipment and infrastructure and the proposed design for the expansion.

  • Ensure design adherence to relevant international codes and standards.

  • Review business cases for application for expenditure of capital.

  • Providing strategic input on infrastructure development and technical solutions.

  • Reporting progress and key project metrics to senior management.

  • Manage project resources, including internal teams, contractors, and subcontractors. 

  • Develop an operational readiness plan for each phase of the project.

  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to manage delays, scope changes, or resource constraints.

  • Prepare accurate and timely reports, updates, and progress reports for stakeholders.

  • Stay abreast of developments in technology and find application of this technology on the operation to reduce cost, increase uptime and improve safety.

  • Ensure strict adherence to safe work practices.

 

Qualification Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or equivalent).

  • Registered Professional Engineer

  • Post graduate qualification in Engineering Management would be advantages.

 

Experience and Skills Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the relevant engineering field with prior demonstrated experience managing engineering teams

  • Demonstrated experience in project management, construction and feasibility studies.

  • Previous experience in the mining industry, with specific exposure to feasibility studies, mine expansion projects, and/or major capital projects.

  • Strong multi-disciplinary engineering leadership across mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, process and infrastructure disciplines.

  • Proven ability to manage engineering inputs for feasibility studies, mine expansion projects and major capital projects.

  • Strong understanding of EPCM project delivery, owner’s team integration, consultant management and contractor/vendor interfaces.

  • Advanced capability in reviewing engineering designs, specifications, drawings, technical reports, cost estimates and schedules.

  • Sound knowledge of mechanical design, plant expansion, brownfield integration, constructability and operational readiness.

  • Strong project controls capability, including scope management, budgeting, scheduling, risk management and progress reporting.

  • Experience supporting CAPEX estimation, procurement, technical bid evaluations, contract reviews and business case development.

  • Strong knowledge of international engineering standards, design verification, quality management and technical governance.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills across senior management, consultants, site teams and contractors.

  • Good communication skills essential

  • Strong safety leadership with a focus on safe design, risk mitigation, reliability, maintainability and sustainable project outcomes.
