Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate and deliver initial and ongoing nursing education for the Florida hospital and outpatient psychiatry clinics, including orientation, annual competencies, skills validation, clinical refreshers, and education related to inpatient psychiatric, crisis stabilization, detoxification, and addiction recovery services.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to identify priority education needs, develop training plans, address competency gaps, and support clinical practice improvement based on regulatory expectations, quality findings, incident trends, audit results, and organizational performance goals.
  • Develop, maintain, and update clinical education materials, resource guides, workflows, competency checklists, skills labs, and training tools to support consistent nursing practice, patient safety, documentation quality, and staff confidence.
  • Provide in-person and virtual education to RNs, LPNs, Behavioral Health Technicians, and other assigned staff regarding nursing standards, medication safety, withdrawal monitoring, vital signs, emergency response, de-escalation, infection prevention, patient rights, suicide risk mitigation, and trauma-informed care.
  • Track assigned clinical certifications, competency completion, course enrollment, training compliance, and renewal needs; communicate upcoming requirements, gaps, and completion status to the Director of Nursing and appropriate hospital leaders.
  • Conduct or coordinate required clinical education as applicable, including timely communication of supply needs, class schedules, attendance, and successful completion.
  • Support onboarding of new nursing and behavioral health support staff by partnering with nursing leadership, preceptors, and department leaders to ensure role-specific education, clinical orientation, skills validation, and transition-to-practice support are completed timely.
  • Assist with survey readiness, regulatory preparation, performance improvement projects, corrective action education, and follow-up training related to Florida requirements, Joint Commission standards, accreditation expectations, and organizational policy.
  • Collaborate with hospital nursing leadership, clinical leaders, quality and compliance teams, medical providers, infection prevention, and interdisciplinary partners to promote safe care delivery, consistent practice expectations, and effective communication across programs and shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or other designated leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of nursing education principles, competency validation, adult learning strategies, behavioral health nursing, addiction treatment, crisis response, trauma-informed care, patient safety, documentation standards, and clinical workflow support.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and teach policies, procedures, regulations, clinical documentation, medical record information, training requirements, and applicable standards in a clear and practical manner.
  • Skilled in professional communication, staff coaching, presentation, course coordination, education documentation, training compliance tracking, cross-functional collaboration, and prioritization of multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality, exercising sound judgment, responding to changing education needs, and supporting a culture of accountability, learning, compassion, and continuous improvement.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse license in the State of Florida, or eligibility to obtain Florida licensure prior to employment.
  • Associate degree in nursing required for RN candidates; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Prior nursing education, preceptor, charge nurse, clinical training, behavioral health, psychiatric, crisis stabilization, detoxification, substance use disorder treatment, or addiction recovery experience preferred.
