IT & Productivity Lead

Location: Boulder, CO

Reports to: SVP of Operations

About the Role

Alta is seeking an IT & Productivity Lead to own the company’s core digital workplace, security posture, and collaboration systems. This role is responsible for the reliable and secure operation of Alta’s primary workspace and productivity platforms, full device and endpoint management, and readiness to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) under NIST SP 800-171.

Security and CUI compliance form the non-negotiable foundation of the role. On top of that foundation, you will drive strong productivity enablement and practical adoption of Workspace AI tools so the team can work efficiently and securely. You will also take primary ownership of the upcoming ERP implementation as Alta scales its operational systems.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role reporting directly to the SVP of Operations. You will set standards, implement controls, support users, and continuously improve the systems the company relies on every day. As Alta grows, the role has clear room to expand in both scope and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end administration, hardening, and continuous improvement of the business productivity suite (identity, groups, shared drives, sharing policies, data retention, DLP, Context-Aware Access, and related security controls).
  • Fully own device and endpoint management, including MDM/UEM configuration, compliance policies, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
  • Establish and maintain strong access control practices: least-privilege permissions, shared drive governance, external sharing controls, and regular access reviews.
  • Ensure reliable backup, recovery, and data-loss prevention for critical Workspace data.
  • Configure and support Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 interoperability so teams can work effectively with external partners.
  • Administer and optimize core productivity tools such as Slack, Jira, Confluence, and related systems.
  • Lead practical implementation, security configuration, and adoption of Workspace AI tools (such as Gemini, Claude, etc and related capabilities).
  • Drive Alta’s readiness for handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), including configuration, documentation, and process controls aligned with NIST SP 800-171.
  • Serve as the primary internal owner for the upcoming ERP system selection, implementation, and ongoing administration.
  • Provide responsive user support and act as the central point of contact for productivity, collaboration, and endpoint systems.
  • Document systems, standards, and runbooks; reduce tribal knowledge through clear processes and training.
  • Partner with the SVP of Operations on prioritization, security posture, tooling decisions, and future system roadmap.

Required Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of progressive experience in IT systems, digital workplace, and identity & productivity administration.
  • Strong hands-on experience administering business productivity systems (e.g., Google and Microsoft) at organizational scale (identity, security controls, shared drives, data retention, DLP, Context-Aware Access or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience owning device/endpoint management (MDM/UEM) and the full user lifecycle (onboarding/offboarding).
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 and experience supporting hybrid Google + Microsoft environments.
  • Practical familiarity with NIST SP 800-171 and the requirements for protecting Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), or clear ability to become operationally proficient quickly.
  • Experience administering or supporting common productivity and engineering tools (Slack, Jira, Confluence, or similar).
  • Ability to implement and govern AI features within productivity platforms.
  • Strong systems thinking, documentation discipline, and user-facing communication skills.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment with high ownership and limited bureaucracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a regulated, government, defense, or dual-use technology environment.
  • Direct experience supporting or leading an ERP implementation (or major business system rollout).
  • Relevant Google and or Microsoft  certifications or equivalent practical depth.
  • Experience with FedRAMP High or Assured Controls environments.
  • Background in a high-growth startup or scale-up.

What We Offer
