Job Description:

Berklee College of Music invites nominations and applications for a full-time Assistant Chair position in the Voice Department.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant professional accomplishment, knowledge, and skill in vocal performance and pedagogy across a wide variety of contemporary styles, alongside expertise in applying science-based vocal pedagogy to vocal training. They will be committed to excellence in teaching with a deep dedication to vocal health and wellness. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assisting the Chair with the leadership and administration of the department, including:

  • Faculty Support: Leading faculty supervision, scheduling, evaluation, and professional development.

  • Student Advising: Guiding and advising students within the department.

  • Operations & Budgeting: Managing the departmental budget, facilities, regular concerts, and specialized clinics.

  • Academic Leadership: Supporting the department's musical and educational direction, including curriculum development, goal setting, and modern educational technology support.

  • Summer Programming: Assisting with college summer offerings, including the 12-Week semester program, the Aspire 5-Week program, and the week-long Vocal Summit.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Master of Music (or equivalent professional experience) is required.

  • Experience: Proven background as an excellent musician, experienced educator, and effective administrator, preferably within a collegiate setting.

  • Artistic Standing: National recognition as a musician and a thorough understanding of contemporary musical styles.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with an aptitude f

  • or embracing cultural diversity in individuals, teaching perspectives, and curriculum design.

Position Details & Compensation

  • Application Deadline: November 1, 2026

  • Appointment: This is a full-time, 12-month position with an initial three-year appointment

  • starting September 1, 2027.

  • Compensation: Commensurate with professional experience, competencies, and qualifications.


Salary range is $109k - $140k
