Position Summary 

The Materials Management Operating Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials and supporting the organization of the construction yard. Equipment experience shall include operations of both light duty and heavy-duty forklifts, telehandlers capable of handling materials upwards of 50,000 lbs. Following all safety policies and procedures is of great importance for this position. Pay for this position is $54.00 an hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Receive, offload, stage, inspect, and store all incoming material shipments in accordance with company materials receiving & handling procedures
  • Pulls and stage material orders in accordance with order pull documentation in preparation for shipment
  • Load staged materials on trucks in accordance with company materials handling procedures
  • Perform periodic cycle counts of inventoried materials as necessary
  • Ensure materials receipt, storage, and shipment meets quality and safety expectations as established by Agile and the Customer. 
  • Store product by designating storage areas; adjusting storage areas according to inventory and shipping requirements. 
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all equipment and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.

Competencies

  • Follows company and client Health & Safety Program to ensure their own safety as well as safety those on site.
  • Operates equipment for safe unloading, storage and loading of large and small electrical construction materials.
  • Effectively interface with customer representatives on site
  • Equipment experience shall include the operations of both light duty & heavy-duty forklifts, telehandlers, and wheel loaders.
  • Responsible for daily equipment checks to ensure equipment is in safe working order


Education and Experience


Required education and experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) to four (4) years in a heavy operator role
  • Certified equipment operator
  • OSHA 10/30 Certification
  • Experience with moving and managing materials up to 50,000 lbs. in weight
  • Experience working outdoors in extreme weather conditions
  • Experience in shipping and receiving
  • Experience with inventory control, and cycle counting.
  • Experience working in warehouse or construction yards

 

Preferred education and experience

  • First Aid and CPR Certified
  • Experience in the electrical construction industry
  • ERP System experience

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work is primarily performed outdoors in an active material laydown yard. 
  • Operate outdoor forklifts and other material-handling equipment to load, unload, move, stage, and organize materials. 
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required to perform the essential functions of the position. 
  • Regularly operate equipment on gravel, dirt, asphalt, concrete, uneven terrain, and other outdoor surfaces. 
  • Work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and other environmental conditions. 
  • May be exposed to dust, mud, noise, vehicle exhaust, and other conditions associated with an active laydown yard. 
  • Frequent operation of forklifts, telehandlers, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other heavy equipment in close proximity. 
  • Maintain constant awareness of pedestrian traffic, moving equipment, vehicles, overhead hazards, stored materials, and changing site conditions. 
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and entering and exiting material-handling equipment. 
  • May require frequent inspection, counting, positioning, securing, and identification of materials. 
  • May be required to secure loads, attach or remove lifting/handling accessories, and assist with material staging and organization. 
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, pull, and handle materials and equipment within the requirements of the position. 
  • Must maintain a clear line of sight and safely maneuver equipment around stored materials, structures, vehicles, and personnel. 
  • Must comply with all applicable OSHA requirements, site-specific safety rules, PPE requirements, equipment operating procedures, and traffic-control plans. 
  • Must complete required equipment inspections and report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, material damage, or other hazards. 
  • May work extended periods outdoors and may be required to work overtime, weekends, or varying shifts based on project requirements. 
  • Position requires the ability to communicate effectively with yard personnel, drivers, vendors, project teams, and other equipment operators. 
  • May occasionally perform administrative or inventory-related tasks in a job trailer or office environment, including use of a computer, tablet, radio, or other communication equipment. 
  • Employee may be required to travel to other project sites, warehouses, vendor facilities, or customer locations as project requirements dictate.
